Gawsh, but it's hot out.

I do this a lot even when it’s not this hot, but I’m a fair-skinned redhead so I have an excuse!

It was “only” 90 today, but you could just about drown in the humidity. We get a few days like this every summer in my corner of the world, I just crank down the AC and eat some popsicles.

For some reason my apartment heated up beyond the outside temperature yesterday, it wasn’t that hot. It’s usually a little cooler or at least the same, but the inside temp rose to about 84. Add to that the humidity and I turned the air on. I was fine sitting in the living room with the fans running, but cleaning the bathroom and doing those couple loads of laundry was not getting done with just the fans on. I am not a fan of the soupy air, I really don’t deal with it well, and am glad it should be over in just a couple months.

I imagine I’ll keep the air conditioners running until Saturday. It’s supposed to climb into the 90’s between now and Friday, and hoping a cool front comes in with rain Friday night.

I am so glad I got that second air conditioner Sunday night.

It’s supposed to be in the low 90’s all week with very high humidity. Friday we’re looking at high 90’s.

This humidity is just disgusting.

Oh no kidding. On 34th st I got two kinds of looks.

  1. " You look like an idiot."
  2. " Oh god why didn’t I think of that ?"

It was me and perhaps a dozen Asian women using umbrellas. Apparently yesterday was the coolest it will be all week. Seems there’s a new fashion accessory in my backpack.

Why would face visors help with heat?

This. This is how I’m coping.

Last summer here in Australia (in March) we had a week long heatwave, reaching over 35°C (95°F) for six consecutive days, the kind that made breathing difficult. What fascinated me was that I was drinking loads and loads of fluids, twice as much as a normal summer day, but not peeing very much, because all I was doing was replenishing what I was sweating out.

I love it. I thrive in these conditions. I hate winter and am not going to complain about mid-30 C heat in the summer. I am the lizard king.

I can’t decide if the perpetual breeze between the buildings would make it better or worse in the city. Although you do have pretzels, at least.

Oooof.

I’m glad my bedroom is in a basement.

It doesn’t, that’s why its so silly. Apparently its used by people who are deathly afraid any light on their skin will cause wrinkles. I know these women, I have them here at work, they always say its about wrinkles

It’s almost lunchtime. I don’t want to go out there. But I don’t have any food in here. It’s sweat or starve. Dammit.

I guess I’m lucky. Its hot as hell, but the humidity is under 10%.

I knew it!

For the past month, it’s been (highs of) 85-95F and 70-90% humidity, alternating with overcast and thunderstorms. I’m definitely over it.
This week, 92-99F, but at least the humidity has gone down a bit.

Local temps may get all the way to 80° overnight. Ummm, that’s down to 80°! Dew points in the 70+% range. The lowest high temp in the next four days is supposed to be 94°, with heat indexes up to about 105°

I’m actually trying to spend time outside to get acclimated as I’m spending ½ the weekend outside…unless I melt partway thru or they throw me out due to medical/hydration issues. Definitely look to be under one of the hot weather alert flag conditions; the question is which one.

It’s Hot as HELL…(Warning NSFW language)

Mid 90’s with a dew point well in to the 60’s…I just make sure to drink plenty of water before I run for an hour or two after work.

Awfully glad I’m not still in the house I was in last summer…that place had no insulation, and sat right out in the open with no shade. And was cooled by a questionable window unit. If I set the thermostat on it at 85 on days like today, it ran constantly.

Now my house is well-shaded for most of the day and stays plenty cool

The projected high for today is 97. On one hand I’m all holey hell has come to backyard. On the other it’s the middle of July and it’s damned well supposed to be hot.

I understand summertime hot but the thermometer stands at 101 right now. We are two hours from the hottest part of the day. Damn New York City…
