Gay Film Starring Russell Crowe On Showtime Tonight

The name of the film is The Sum Of Us.

If not the first film of Russell Crowe, it has to be one of his first - as he is really young in this one.

Crowe plays a Gay guy living at home with his dad. For the most part, it is a comedy (with a few serious moments).

It is actually a pretty good film, based on a play by the same name.

It is on ShowToo tonight.

I went and saw this movie on a blind date once. The date was a bit of a disaster, but the movie was good!

[nitpick]
I wouldn’t call it a gay movie, though. Sure, Russell plays a gay guy, but the movie mostly revolves around his relationship with his dad (played by Jack Thompson, IIRC).
[/nitpick]

Another of his early films which is good is Proof. And Romper Stomper is pretty good too (scary, though).

Check his IMDb entry before you make a statement like it was his first movie:

It was his tenth movie (if you count a TV movie), and he had already been a regular in three TV shows by that time.

My wife picked this one out at the video store by chance several years ago (this was before L.A. Confidential and neither of us had ever heard of Russel Crowe). We were both pretty impressed with it.

Yes there is life outside of hollywood…wow what a concept

Two words: Romper Stomper

A better film, and more proof the guy can act.

Read and comprehend the OP before being snotty:

I found this movie to be completely charming and have watched it several times. I’m sure I have it on tape somewhere. Crowe is good as is the entire cast, especially the dad. Every gay guy I know who’s seen it has said they wish their dad was more like him.

First time I saw Russell Crowe was in The Insider and thought he was phenomenal. Next up was Gladiator and I was shocked. “That’s the same guy?!”

I, too loved this film.

I copied it. And keep it under lock and key… well not really but …

Yeah, I think it was a fantastic father/son movie.

You should always check the IMDb before you post about a film. Always. Otherwise you’re just wasting other people’s time.

Oh, BS. How early this film was made in Russel Crowe’s career has nothing to do with the relevance of the OP. DMark was just commenting on how young Crowe looked in it. Lighten up, already.

Shame on you, DMark, for wasting everybody’s time with your shoddily-researched program announcement! Gotta catch him in the act or he’ll never learn; next thing you know he’ll be going on threads writing pointless, pedantic complaints about stuff that has nothing to do with the OP!

When I lived in Oz I saw the movie when it came out. Great movie. It was adpated from a play.

Don’t forget veteran Aussie actor Jack Thompson played his father. He has his own long bio, included quite a few American films, too.
