Gay men unable to form appropriate male friendships

Either that, or she’s in a place (or her partner is in a place) where she wants only to be around women - there are some extremist groups like that where sons are not acceptable.

I don’t necessarily think this is a good thing (although it beats hell out of a male child being emotionally abused just because of his gender). And it also doesn’t explain why she’s dropped y’all.

Note: We’re not all like that. I like men.

Oh, he only stopped talking to the others for about six weeks, his “shocked, woe is me for Kirk doing this to us” period, I suppose. Now he calls them, invites them to things, never invites me. I had a party at my place when i came back from Europe, he said he’d be there, didn’t show, never called to apologize. And I even gave him an easy out, a “are you all sure you’re coming?” email, when I knew everyone else was confirmed. All he had to do was send back “Sorry, can’t make it” and some bullshit excuse. But no, the fucker just didn’t show.

The more I think of it, the more I’m realizing I’m through with him, either way. Let him crawl back to me, though, give me a chance to reject him as harshly as he rejected me.

Kirk

If that’s what you really want to do, why wait?

If every member in it with any shred of basic human decency did the right thing and bolted from it, it wouldn’t last out the decade.

Your support is nice, but you still do great harm to gays everywhere by serving the Southern Baptist Convention.

Well, we’re usually trashed at least once at your bi-annual clan rallies.

If a body grows a tumor, do you try to reform the tumor? No. You kill it. The Southern Baptist Convention is evil, furthers evil and actively opposes equality, and deserves to die.

Oh, it was all Todd. But his pathetic and evil attitudes were bred into him by the brainwashing of your “christian” organization.

Kirk

That’s not really what I want. But what I want will likely never happen, thats having my friend back, exactly as it was before, which is pretty much the situation with all my other (read: real) friends. But frankly, this has been going on for almost seven months, and I don’t know if I can forgive him. He has no right to treat me like this, and he’s pissing all our mutual friends off, though I don’t think he realizes this.

If he were to call today, and we could work things out, that’ll be fine. But come October, since I’m getting angrier with every passing day, I don’t think that’ll be the case. At this point, I’m torn, between wanting to hurt him as badly as he’s hurt me, and wanting him back.

But every day he continues to be an asshole, the more I tilt towards “hmmm… how can I in this life make sure Todd R— suffers greatly?” I’m a very, very loyal friend. But when treated poorly, I swing to the exact opposite pole.

The problem is, Kirk, you seem to prefer a very wide brush. Not every Baptist supports the SBC. The Texas Baptist General Convention has actively bucked the SBC on several issues and has withheld funds from the SBC over it’s positions.

When Falwell made the comments he did about gays and liberals causing God to lift his protection and allowing the 9/11 attacks, one of the SBC idiots agreed. Phil Strickland, director of the Texas Baptist Christian Life Commission, a Texas Baptist General Convention commission, wrote a scathing rebuttal.

I sometimes wonder why God doesn’t feel that same way about me. The only advice I can offer you is that nothing cures hurt but love. Unconditional love.

Rebuttals and withdrawing funds are not enough. They have to leave. Move to one of the decent Baptist organizations. No one who stays within the Southern Baptist Convention can claim to be anything but hostile towards gays, because they continue to lend numerical support and credence to that “church”'s activities.

Kirk

I will not love someone, will not be friends with someone, who treats me like a second class friend for being honest. Nor will I be friends with someone who “tolerates” me being gay, instead of accepting it.

At one point the Catholic Church supported killing gays, but has since moderated it’s position. In fact, it still officially states that gay sex is sinful, although they’ve since decided that the orientation itself is not. If they can do it why can’t the Baptists? Why do you continue to support the Catholic Church?

Now you sound like His4ever!

The Catholic Church has changed, and shown signs of an ability to grow and learn. The Southern Baptist convention has not. In fact, it is getting more strident, and worse.

And as for “supporting” the Catholic Church, I generally don’t, anymore. I no longer attend a Catholic church. I will defend her against the lie that she’s not Christian, as spread by His4Ever, but I will not support the church in her recent actions, thats why I left. The second those fucking bishops tried the “blame the fags” defense, they lost any monetary or membership support from me for all time.

Kirk

Aren’t you being kind of harsh? I mean, I’m not defending what the bishops who said that kind of stuff said. They were idiots. But just because there are a few idiots, even if those idiots are in the leadership, doesn’t mean that the entire organization is hopelessly corrupted forever.

I mean, I’m continuously chagrined and disgusted by stuff Bush and members of his administration say, but I’m not moving to Canada because of it.

Someone asked for the list of 1049 benefits of marriage that was compiled by the General Accounting Office of the U. S. Government. Read it, as I have, and weep.

Thanks, MrVisible.

No, I’m being too kind. If there were justice, every single bishop who has blamed the current crisis on – no, who has scapegoated their own culpability on – the backs of gays, would be stoned in the town square. Not stoned to death, mind you. But pelted until they’re so bruised that they match thier Lenten vestements.

The organization is merely an extension of the actions and policies of its leaders. If you do not support the leadership of an organization, and it is a leadership you cannot change (or realistically change), then you must leave the organization.

I’ve considered Canada. Europe is more attractive. If things keep going the way they’re going in this country (all this “war” bullshit and the infringement on civil rights, the advent of the John Ashcroft pseudo-police state, a “homeland security” cabinet office), I’ll be tossing my US passport in the trash bin as soon as I finish my PhD.
