"Gazelle Glider" exercise equipment advice needed

My mom (and, to an extent, myself) is looking around to find some exercise equipment she’d actually use. A big factor is that it needs to be easy on your joints; just walking around the block can give her a lot of pain.

She’s been looking at the Gazelle Glider by Tony Little. Overall it seems to have good recommendations. It looks to be easy on the joints, “fun” to use, quiet, and can fold for storage.

BUT… There seems to be two different models out there. The first one is the “Gazelle Freestyle”, which is about $199, and the second is the “Gazelle Freestyle “Elite”” which is over $400. Big difference!

My mom doesn’t have a lot of money to spend (even $200 is a lot, but manageable), but getting a piece of exercise equipment that she can use in her own home will be cheaper than a gym membership she doesn’t have much time to use.

Has anyone tried the Gazelle Glider or knows someone who has? And can anyone tell me if the difference between the two is huge (what if the cheaper one is crap, etc)?

Funny this same basic thread is on another board I frequent. A few of the posters who have bought the more expensive version, say they now wish they would have bought the one that K-Mart sells as it is just as good for alot less. This is “second hand” knowlege to me…so don’t hold me to it, but worth checking into.

My family owns the Freestyle Elite one. So far as I can tell, it’s spiffier because it has a water bottle holder. ::shrugs:: I’ve not seen the cheaper one before, though. Ours also came with extra resistance-type things to attach if we wanted and some exercise videos (they actually were pretty good, motivation-wise), though I don’t remember if we paid extra for those or not.

I do think the machine is really fun to use, mainly because it feels so different. The gliding thing is great. It’s most assuredly easy on the joints too. However, it’s really heavy and a pain in the neck to move around. Not exactly the most compact thing when folded up either. But I like it, so long as I don’t have to move it around too much.
