And what, pray tell, is wrong with Mrs. Bush’s personality, in your opinion?
Damn Dopers. Why do perfectly good, mindless Pit rants always have to be hijacked with interesting tidbits of historical trivia?
The implication of the question is that we were looking for people who sought the renominaion and failed to get it. Polk never sought a second term. Nixon wasn’t eligible, and above and beyond that was no longer an incumbent in 1976.
Have you read Al Franken’s book?
Yeah, right. Care to enlighten us?
I thought he looked a bit shaken after they dragged the first woman out.
Well, shit, AD, wouldn’t you if you were him?
All in all, pretty standard bilge, Szell pretty much sucked all the energy up. I thought there were some pretty strange applause points, crowd enthusiasm that seemed disproportionate to the import of the topic. Is the scourge of frivolous lawsuits really more desperately important than the epidemic of flag desecration?
And of course, no word…not one word…on funding research and prevention of the dread menace of Cognitive Dissonance, but I’ve come to expect that…
And one oddly noticed…it seems by my rought estimate that if GeeDubya hadn’t been interrupted by heckling and a couple of incidents of extended applause, he would have finished his speech within seconds of the Daily Shows opening credits. I gotta wonder: would there have been a way to measure if, say, 27% of the people watching the show switched to watch John Stewart make fun of him?
I recognized the first part, as emphasized by the fact in my post that you repeated;) I included Polk because let’s face it, when have we known a president to deliberately not seek a second term?
Nixon, for his part, was a joke. Whether I meant that wrt my inclusion of his name in my post or in a more overall sense is an exercise for the reader…
Franken relates the tale of when they happened to trake the same commercial flight. He says, in a comical way, that she was rude and combative towards him. Seeing as how it’s essentially a comedy book, I don’t know how much of it he actually meant and how much was played for laughs.
Interesting catch from Kevin Drum, over at http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/
Um, isn’t Franken rude and combative towards just about everyone?
Yeah, he’s one of those aggressive, belligerent and intimidating Minnesota liberals you hear so much about. You don’t know the meaning of terror until you’ve been cornered by one of them.
No. He’s a comic.
That’s nice, I don’t know anyone who is intimidated by Minnesota liberals. What are they gonna do, toss herring around?
Doesn’t that require that he be actually, you know, funny?
You think these threads will stop once the election is over? That’s so adorable.
Me too, me too.
I made a comment in another thread that Diogenes is incapable of saying anything nice about Republicans. These convention screeds are a symptom of this peculiar malady.
Actually, there was mention of job creation in the speech. Also, the speech mentions his dad; Drum claims it does not. This source is about as accurate as the one you provide.
It helps to have a sense of humor.
Not true. I have said nice things about Republicans on at least two or three occasions. I am only incapable of saying anything nice about Bush.
Oh…and Zig Zag is a Dem. isn’t he?
