Looks like the new season will be generating a lot of talk. So, here’s the season thread.

Just finished watching the premiere. Wow, that was painful seeing Shannon so sad. She’s always been the bright spark in the show. Always smiling and a joke at just the right time.

I’ve never seen her this down before. The empty nest syndrome has hit her hard. I’m not sure Gene can win her back. This goes way beyond a bunch of groupies. Gene is a hard core work alcoholic. Always away either touring or doing some business deal. That’s who the guy is. I’m not sure he can change even for Shannon. Breaking a lifetime lifestyle isn’t going to be easy.

I love this show and always thought we were seeing a pretty happy family. Just last year Gene was there supporting Shannon during her cancer scare. I guess there was a lot going on when the cameras weren’t rolling.

Any thoughts about the new season? Can the show even continue with both kids gone and maybe Shannon too?

Some of the stuff they showed tonight was just too raw. I didn’t feel comfortable seeing Gene in therapy. Some things need to be private. Saving or losing a 27 year relationship isn’t something that should be done in front of cameras.

My wife and i watched the premiere last night. I am surprised Gene permitted this to be filmed and shown. He loves publicity, but I can’t imagine this is good for him in any way…

Loved last nights episode. Gene visits Israel for the first time since he emigrated to the U.S. at 8. He got to meet his half brothers and sisters for the first time and visit his dad’s grave.

I found it very interesting that Gene’s mom had met the extended family several times in past years. But never told Gene. Gene’s anger towards his dad and his parents separation had never changed in over 50 years.

I’m glad Gene is finally moving forward in his life. Getting to know his extended family is an important step. Gene seems very proud of his Jewish heritage. He speaks Hebrew pretty well. I haven’t heard if his children were raised Jewish or not.

I’m also glad Shannon is back in his life. But, I get the impression they are still on very shaky ground. I can’t help but hope they find a way to heal their differences.
