I know every girl that meets Simmons says he’s funny as hell but total sleazeball (both of MTV"S Julie browns said you put plastic on the furniture and burn it after he leaves ) and he was going for shock value and illustrating hiss point rather graphically but no sense of humor for fox ?
This is not something Fox News, of all organizations, is really in a position to look the other way on…not that I think they should, even if they were in a position to do so.
“Cocaine is a hell of a drug.” - Rick James
I think what has been ignored up until recently is that a significant segment of the population does not, and never has, regarded some of his antics as “funny”
I met him years ago at E3 (I was in line in front of him, he was trying to get his son into the game industry), and yeah… that’s a pretty accurate statement.
Bursting into a business meeting you’re not involved in, pulling up your shirt and shouting rude things, and tapping unwilling people on the head with a book are all, at the very least, profoundly immature. If a non-rockstar did it, they’d be arrested.
Simmons is 68, ferpetercrisssake. If he hasn’t learned how to behave like a civilized human being in public yet, he probably never will. Doesn’t mean the rest of us have to put up with his shit.
For all that’s been said about him here that I agree with, I feel I should add something. I never thought much of him and KISS. YMMV. Then I caught that TV series of him and his family. I thought his kids (about a 16 year old boy and 13 year old girl when I started watching) were GREAT kids. Sure, that was mostly Shannon’s work but SOME of it came from Gene. So I have to give him credit for that. And he seemed to be a good son to his mother.
Gene Simmons is probably piiiiisssed that he couldn’t become the first reality-star-turned-president (he was born in Israel) and would tell you “many people don’t know that it was me who came up with the idea…” and decided that if he couldn’t be in the White House roughing up America, he’d do the next best thing and try to rough up Fox News.
Gene is famously sober.
I met Gene once, told him that I attended a KISS concert in 1979 while in my mother’s womb. He enjoyed the story so much (for some reason) that he called over his female companion (not Shannon Tweed) and had me repeat the story to her.
Nice enough guy to me, but I certainly understand the creep factor.
here he is on the today show … sad thing is hes right …MSN
The important question here is: Did Gene Simmons get his publicity itch scratched? Good, then. Other musicians, in search of publicity, release quality music and let that do the talking. (Thanks for that Joe Perry!)
In my home town of Haifa, no less. Yay us.
