General outlet for steaming about TubaDiva's unprofessionalism

Yeah, that’s a great point. The point of my post was that monitoring 3 links on a single page adds up to not very much work. Since you don’t seem to actually know the work involved or the actual pay, don’t you think it’s a little stupid to “stake your life” on the hourly wage?

Don’t you think it’s more than a little stupid to offer half her wage based on what you know about the work involved?

Back to you, Chet.

I was mocking the fact that tomndebb, and apparently you as well, thought she was only getting paid for maintaining three links. It’s sounds a lot like something Ed bullshitted you with so the volunteer admins and staff wouldn’t feel ripped off. Get it now? I knew full well about the post porcupine linked, as it was a hot thread at the time.

Nothing we didn’t already know.

If it comes to a money issue, I think many people would be willing to pay more for a professionally moderated board.

Bambi, she could have acted even more minimally than that in the Wally thread, and not said anything at all. After all, it wasn’t an “official board policy” type question, and other posters were there who were willing to answer the question without going batshit.

Regarding poor customer service…first we’re supposed to suck it up because, hey, the board’s free. Then, the board goes pay and we are supposed to suck it up because the mods are overworked volunteers. Now, it turns out that one of them is actually getting paid…and yet we’re still supposed to suck it up and take her bizarre, unprofessional outbursts and overreactions and empty promises…why?

It’s almost become entertaining. What’s TubaDiva going to completely overreact about next?

Wasn’t Tubadiva suspended once? For what?

Why then do you not mirror your real life personality in your internet personality? Why should only the people who meet you in real life understand the difference? Most of us have only your internet personality to go by.

I will never, ever understand this. The personality you see in my posts is me. I am sometimes funny, sometimes witty, sometimes banal, sometimes stupid, sometimes tolerant, sometimes overbearing; and my posts here reflect that precisely. They are exactly, always, constantly me. I do not get why some people feel that the anonymity of the internet not only enables, but requires them to be different than they really are.

This board is a community. Community is better enabled by being ourselves than by adopting a persona.

For publicly violating the privacy of a poster.
Here’s a good overview.
I have no dog in the TubaGate debacle, and am frankly tired of hearing Tuba bashing. But I’m sick of her replies like this and her other (condescending and transparent) replies in that thread.

Frank

Catsix isn’t adopting a persona. It’s just that many of her posts in GD and the Pit are quite emotional and memorable. So much so, that memory of them colors the rest of her posts. As with many posters, seperating that side of her you see in GD and the Pit will give you a much more accurate picture of Catsix.

Actually, the issue only came up off board after Ed’s comment in the post quoted by porcupine. At that time it was mentioned that while Ed had mentioned “SDMB,” the actual compensation was associated only with the Straight Dope page (which includes other administrative work) and not with this message board although her overall duties encompass both sites. The off board comments were only a clarification of Ed’s comments, not intended to placate the staff. I’ve never encountered a staff member who expressed any concern over the issue; it seems to bother you a lot more than it bothers us.

I doubt that seeing as how I haven’t expressed any bother at all over the issue. I was making fun of moron mods climbing over themselves to make Tuba look better. Hilarious, actually. You and sam were both wrong, porcupine pointed it out and now you are both oh so casually trying to make me look like the goofball. It’s only going to fool the morons, I’m afraid. Unfortunately, there’s plenty of them around to encourage you.

tom is much more pleasant than I. He’s a gentleman. I’m not.

You’re a waste of my posting life and time.

Take your mocking posts somewhere else.

I NEVER thought she was getting paid to maintain three links.

How fucking stupid are you?

I don’t see where you have demonstrated any error in what I have posted.

Ed posted a comment on the board.
The comment was clarified off board among staff members.
Ed’s original comment has been brought up on several occasions as an issue.
I posted the clarification (if none too clearly) that had been mentioned following Ed’s post.

Now, if you have evidence that the compensation is for services directly tied to the operation of the message board, you may provide that and I will acknowledge that the off board clarification was in error and I will withdraw my comment.

Failing that, I see that you are still doing nothing on the SDMB except calling people names and being pissy. Seems a shame to have such a small life, but I’m sure you are enjoying that to your fullest capacity.

Well, maybe I am a waste of your “posting life” but that’s really your fault isn’t it?

I’ll leave you with this, you lying retard:

Paaaaathetic. Back to you, chet.

No, you’re Chet. He’s David.

It’s more than 3 links.

There’s one graphical link to the image on the left of the page.

There’s threadspotting, recently answered topics, werid earl and stuff like that
archive pages need to be updated.

Then you just don’t update a ‘link’. You open the html page, remove the oldest link (note the page only need 4 links), put in the new one, at the same time ensure proper formatting. If you are doing it offline, then you need to launch a FTP client, and re-upload the page. Then you load the page and see “hmm…is it done correctly?”

The front page seems to be updated quite regularly too.

And oh yes, there’s a mailing list too.

I wonder who do the formatting for each of the staff report or for Cecil’s reply.

Maintaining a static web page is quite a hassle – an entire site even worse, considering the amount of email and etc.

This sort of things can be automated more or less by a content management system in PHP or other server-side script, though.

Sheesh, how I love the old ones on here…

Seems pointless to even mention it now, but TubaDiva posted what I think (not that my opinion on the subject counts for much) is a nice and perfectly acceptable apology to Hey Homie in the Wally ATMB thread.

We’re all lucky that the SDMB wasn’t sued completely out of existence over the time that TubaDiva banned, then harrassed a registered sex offender “…for the SDMB” in violation of the SDMB’s privacy policy and possibly the law, and it’s unthinkable that someone who crossed the line in such an egregious manner is still in a position of authority on the board.

I think this is something of a “been there, done that”.
