Thinking that the mods have any control or ownership of this message board displays such an incredible lack of insight, that “fucking laughable” doesn’t come close.

The mods are NOT the programmers. The Mods are not the owners of the Message Boards. The Mods have no control whatsoever over when the READER thinks it may or may not take some actions, nor when the business environment changes so that business plans and directions also change.

From that perspective, my weather analogy is pretty spot on.

No, no, no, no. It’s more akin to this: You prepay for a meal. Sitting down to eat it, you notice that while much of it is absolutely primo, there was this one bit that was really far below par. You make mention of it to the person you paid. Instead of a “Oh, sorry,” or even a “Well, that IS what you paid for, we can’t control what you personally like or dislike,” that person walks over to the rest of your food on the table, jumps on top of the table, drops their drawers and takes a dump on your plate, then tells you “You should be happy that we fed you anything for your money.”

And (I love starting a sentence with And. It annoys so many fuckwits) I’m one of the ones taht can be said to mostly like the Mods/Admins around here. But when one or more makes a jerkish mistake, they should be called on it. Notice I said a JERKISH mistake. Sometimes a mistake is just a mistake. Sometimes the problem is a bit deeper.

And then there’s that really bad Mod-hole who I truly hate with the burning fury of a large dog, but whose name will remain a secret, even tho that person knows who I’m talking aboiut, don’t you SkipMagic !?

Like it or not, you are the official representatives of the Reader to us here on the boards. You don’t like being put in that position when you have no authority to effect change? Then make some waves with the higher ups or quit. But don’t treat us like we’re the bad guys because you’re upset that you have no more say with your ‘bosses’ than we do. (And by you I mean the collective you, as in all mods and admins).

I’ve worked jobs where I had no more pull with my bosses than my clients or customers, but I never took it out on my customers. I didn’t consider them demanding or overbearing when they expected things I couldn’t deliver. I put the blame where it belonged: on my boss for not giving me the authority to perform my job well.

If, on the other hand, Greathouse’s suspension was done for you, then that would be the most egregious abuse-of-position act by a moderator since Tuba Diva’s little foray into vigilanteism. I asked them politely about this, and they snarkily told me that everyone around those parts called fake syrup maple syrup. Well, boo hoo for me. I didn’t eat there again. End of story.

The moral of the story is this: sometimes people communicate something to you that’s not what they intended to communicate. This doesn’t make them liars. If you don’t like it, you’re free to stop patronizing their business.

• The concerns were expressed obnoxiously. catsix would have some sympathy from me if she asked politely and respectfully about the matter that concerned her. She didn’t, so she doesn’t.

• The remedy is obvious. If it’s a real problem, and if you don’t expect the problem to be addressed, shut up and/or go away. That’s what I did with my fake syrup tragedy. That’s what I expect others to do in similar circumstances.
