General Petraeus on Russia-Ukraine

It would be an enormous gift to Putin for NATO to extend their involvement since there is a long tradition of anti-propaganda in Russia. It would justify further repressive measures. Far better to provide indirect support.

True. Any thing that goes badly for the people will become unvaryingly labeled as sabotage by agents and collaborators of NATO and the Decadent West (that in turn meaning, anyone who is not actively working to support Putin).

I, for one, am opposed to him even keeping Crimea, no matter how lucky he gets. In fact, even before the invasion, I insisted that renouncing the so-called “annexation” was a condition of getting people to stop accusing him of planning to invade (further).

Best of all possible solutions: he’s offered a junior probationary (non-voting, non-important-meeting-attending) membership in NATO.

Um… What??? His entire life has been personal enrichment at the expense of his nation. He is the purest example of an oligarch.
