Genetic Freak Animals....help me here!!

I used to watch “Riplys Believe it or not” when I was a young boy. On this one show they had some animal that, I swear, was crosed between a PIG and Rhino or something. It was a GIANT big ass pink looking giant folded skin thing with a PIG SNOUT. It was video of it moving around…so it had to be real.

Did anyone else ever see this…?

thanks

A lot of the Ripley’s things are just other kinds of freaks.

That’s not to say it wouldn’t be worth looking at as a curiosity, the same as any zoo animal, but it’s probably just a pig with reular pig parents and a skin birth defect.

I wonder if Ripley’s has a website?

Not a tapir? They’re not pink, and they have snouts more like a short elephant’s trunk than a pig’s nose.

Give us a more detailed description.

I wish I could…

OK here…I’ll try

It was about as big as a Rhino.
It was pink…or you know…as pink as a pig gets…not “hello kitty” pink.
It had HUGE folds of skin.

I remember the face most. It had a “snout” it’s eyes were not able to be seen as they were hidden by big flaps of skin. The eyes were on the front of the face…more so than on the sides…like a rhino.

ugh…WHAT WAS IT?

It’s probably a sacrificial male pig used in a local religion in Taiwan, and perhaps some south eastern provinces of China; the religion is a mix between Taoism and Buddhism. These pigs are proffesionally bred to be fat, can weigh more than a thousand pounds, and must be moved with construction cranes. They are fed with luxurious food, bathed and cleaned regularly, enjoy air conditioning, and even massage. Unlike others of their kind, they often live long lives and are only slaughtered when they absolutely cannot get any fatter…

Sounds like Zor may have it (assuming he’s not kidding around), as there are no wild animals anywhere close to a Rhino’s size that are pink.

Zor, I don’t disbelieve you, but as that’s quite interesting, do you have a source you can mention?

Yes, I’ve seen one myself

These pigs usually get on the local news before they get slaughtered as well. Some of the smaller ones are even used in anual memorial ceremonies of Confucius; students would go pull the hairs off the slaughtered and blessed pig as a lucky charm for high school and college entrance exams. The hairs are known as “wisdom roots” if I recall correctly. This is probably a tradition that developed locally, as I’m pretty sure Confucious would not have approved of this practice

Ordinary pigs are huge 600-1000lbs if allowed to fully mature. You see, here in the US, we slaughter pigs when they are 250 days old and still fairly small. Take a look at mama and daddy pig. They are huge and ugly, and have beady little eyes. I’ve seen a boar that weighed 1100 pounds and could kick any cow’s butt.
