Was Scoot angry about the way Patton was edited because he wanted to portray Patton as a crazy person?
I’ve not heard anything about Scott being angry about how Patton was edited. Scott supposedly rejected the Oscar he was given for the film, because he didn’t think that it was fair that actors were pitting against one another. Scott did extensive research on Patton before he did the film and has stated that he didn’t care for the man or his ideals, but that’s the closest I’ve heard to Scott referring to Patton as “crazy.”
Like Tuckerfan, the only controversy I have heard concerning Scott and Patton was his refusal of the Academy Award. He asked that his name be removed from nomination, as he had done when nominated as Best Supporting Actor for The Hustler. About the Oscar show, he was quoted as saying “The ceremonies are a two-hour meat parade, a public display with contrived suspense for economic reasons.”
Heh
I heard that Scott got so worked up about his first Academy nod, for Anatomy of a Murder, that he was shocked at his own disappointment for not winning. He swore off award ceremonies after that.
I’ve heard that he didn’t like the speech being the first scene in the movie because he felt the rest of the movie is a letdown after that.
