George Lopez show cancelled

I’m guessing he’s not with Coco any more.

Back when ABC canceled his truly, epically, can-it-REALLY-be-this-fucking-dreadful? sitcom “George Lopez” (it’s name was every bit as creatively inspired as it’s writing and acting were) good ol’ George was quick to tell everyone that the real reason that his show got the axe was obviously because of vile, pernicious racism, pure and simple…

Stay Classy, Mex.

I honestly gave his show a shot, if only because it was on after Conan. It really felt like someone took Jay Leno’s monologue that day, wrote in the word “Hispanic” or “Mexican” every third joke, and gave it to Lopez.

Yaaaayyyy! dances a fucking rumba*

I hate that asshole so much. He is one of maybe 4 celebrities that I hate in real life. You know what I mean? Not a ‘hollywood’ hate, but a genuine personal hate.

Meg: I wanna watch George Lopez!
Chris: That show only perpetuates the stereotype that George Lopez is funny.

Good. I can’t stand him and his comedy is flatter than a pancake.

Ya know, I’ve often just assumed that I’ve missed something about this guy that seems to appeal to everybody else. But come to think of it, I can’t think of one person I know who enjoys this guy’s schtick. Glad to know it’s not just me.

I remember seeing a print ad for the show – a pair of pants with a urine stain in the shape of his face – and just being completely repelled by it. I never had any intention of watching the show, but this ad caused me to go from being more or less uninterested in it to actively hoping that it would tank.

Good riddance.

His talk show was still on?

I caught a few minutes this show while I was on vacation with my friend. He loves it! I thought I was missing something.

The other day he tells me there was this HILARIOUS bit on Lopez where he shows the first female endurocross, and the entire video was just bike crashes.

I watched about 20 seconds of it before I deemed it sexist and turned it off.

A few days later, he was canceled. HA!

I’m pretty amazed to see all of the comments on that video, sticking up for the women. Go Internet!

ETA: I am a little leery of my friend now (who is a dude).

I won’t mourn the passing - I am not a fan of George.

Just really tired of this asshole; anyone who watched him for more than 10 minutes probably deserves him. NOT FUNNY.

Anytime you have to tell me something is Very Funny, it’s probably not. In fact, it’s probably a waste of time.

Bri2k

I am by no means a fan of George Lopez, but the disdain being shown for him makes me think people might be confusing him with Carlos Mencia, who is/was definitely not funny. Lopez just seemed tame to me with safe jokes for family time. I’m not bothered one way or another about Lopez’ show being canceled, but I was happy when Mind of Mencia was canceled from Comedy Central.

No.

Carlos Mencia = unfunny joke stealer (I know lots of comedians steal jokes, but he is run amok with it)

George Lopez = fucking intolerable asshole.

He’s a bit of a scumbag though. After his wife gave him a kidney, he cheated on her, which then ended their marriage.

Wow, what a dick! I’d never heard that.

It’s all speculation of course, but from what I remember: wife gave him a kidney and he recovered. A while later, a story popped up in the Enquirer (say what you will, but they’ve been on point about a number of “scandals” recently, including John Edwards) that he was patronizing hookers. Soon after, divorce filed.

Maybe she was mad at the tabloid story, but I can’t imagine someone’s wife of 17 years-- who gave the man a kidney, for crying out loud- would just flounce out of the marriage over gossip and rumor. I’m willing to bet there was a hefty amount of truth in the story, which is why she left him.

I think the writing was on the wall that he would be cancelled and Lopez probably hoped having Conan as a lead in might help him.

By the way the writing on the wall said “You’re not funny, why do people keep giving you TV shows?”

I have to agree, very unfunny and his constant Mexican jokes actually make me uncomfortable. Sure maybe he can get away with it but it just makes him sound like a Mexican that hates all other Mexicans.
