George W. Bush, John Kerry, Jesse Jackson, et al.

I am so glad I have no reason to go near downtown Topeka tomorrow. All of the above, and more, will be here tomorrow. Our own governor of course, Kathleen Sebelius, a Supreme Court Justice(I forget which one) and a veritable plague of news reporters.

It’s for the decication of a national memorial site at Monroe Elementary School. It’s the 50th anniversary of the Brown Vs. Topeka Board of Education decision, stating that “seperate but equal” educational institutions are inherently unequal.

I think the occasion is a fine one. But God help us, the security is already screwing up traffic and business. A necessary evil I know.

One thing I can hope for. Fred Phelps wants to picket. Maybe he will go overboard and the Secret Service will leave him a greasy spot on the pavement.

Phelps is pro-segregation? I knew he was backward, but damn.

No, Phelps is picketing civil rights leaders because, and I quote, “they have hijacked King’s freedom train, teaching the soul damning lie that 'It’s okay to be gay!”

To Phelps, everyone but those in his church are doomed irrevocably to Hell, because they are either “fags or fag enablers.”

You know the guy who got his head cut off in Iraq? Nick Berg? According to Phelps he died for the sins of the USA against the Westboro Baptist Church. But don’t believe me, you can look it up.

Oh, I believe it.

Well, my readtion to watching the President on TV was “That’s it?” Air Force One touched down, Prez was driven to the school site. he talked for 13 minutes. shook a few hands, stood for a picture with the choir that sang. Left for the plane and it took off. Total time in Topeka, no more than an hour and a half, if that much.

I just saw on the evening news that Margie Phelps and her son Jacob were arrested for disobeying the lawful order of a police officer. They were standing on chairs by the VIP section holding banners that blocked the view of others. So they refused to get down and got the cuffs thrown on them.

The other local channel had pictures too. My dad says Margie did not look like a happy camper.

And I’ve often wondered. Margie has never married. She has a son she says was adopted, but I don’t see any reputable agency giving the Phelp’s a kid. Hmmm. At least she wasn’t divorced, then Daddy would have been really unhappy.
