Phelp’s church has announced they will picket Coretta Scott King’s funeral tomorrow because of her vocal support for GLBT equality. What do you want to bet that they don’t really have the balls to show.
It may be evil of me, but I certainly hope they do, and due to the number of cameras there they probably will. Twixt this and the military funeral picketing and the like, sooner or later some loose cannon somewhere is gonna go off and I’d really like to own the video file and use it as a screensaver.

They’ll probably do it. These people pretty much protest any funeral they please and seem to care less about how threatening and environment it will be. One of Phelps favorite things to do is bait someone in to assaulting him and then sue them for it.
Of course Phelps has also been charged with assault several times himself.
When your primary source of income is provoking assaults so you can file a suit, you’ve gotta ratchet up the offensiveness. While I share Sampiro’s sentiments, the best thing to do with these assholes is just to ignore them. Wasn’t there a group who would follow them around with large wing-like sheets who would block them from the grieving family’s view? I liked that strategy.
You think so? He’s threatened to go to many funerals in the recent past, but as far as I know, he’s bagged on all of them. Am I wrong on this?
Still, I can’t help but think that the ghost of MLK would want to get all sorts of civilly and disobediently medieval on Phred’s ass.
If the Westboro Baptists do this – even if they loudly proclaim the reason is Mrs. King’s support for LBGT rights and nothing else – they’re just going to alienate any conservative African-Americans who might otherwise be inclined to sympathize with their anti-gay agenda.

I wonder what the Black Panthers and the NoI boys will think about the picketing? Well, at least they don’t have a history of violence against people who piss them off.
He/They really did show up to picket the Sago miners memorial. That surprised me. It takes a little bit of work to get to Buckhannon, WV and a lot more balls if they stayed anywhere in the area overnight.
He might have but other loons from his church haven’t.
I’m with NurseCarmen on this one. Please let them piss off the Panthers…and then let the cops look the other way for a few minutes, before they ticket the Panthers for illegal parking and throw Phelps and his fucktards into the Hole.
Much as I’d love to see these wingnuts get the everloving poo kicked out of them, I think it would be more fitting to have a gospel choir or two maintain a singing wall between the Phredheads and the mourners.

I can’t think of a more fitting tribute to the Kings’ belief in nonviolent protest than to let Phelps and his clan hurl their hate and be met with indifference and pity.

I would have expected, at least, some near-coherent explanation of what coal mining has to do with sodomy. (Apart from a predilection for delving into deep, dark holes.)
It’s impossible to say for sure what phred thinks, if indeed any process akin to thinking is actually occuring in his cranium.
Best guess; the man is a real-life troll; he doesn’t give a flying fuck about homosexuals, God, or America, but derives some orgasmic thrill from being the centre of attention again.
Second best guess: He’s a raving queer, in deep, deep denial and he hopes that God will spare the brimstone if he shows utter contempt to those ‘afflicted’ by his own ‘ailment’.
