German diplomat assassinated in 1930's?

Back in the 1930’s there was a man who killed a German diplomat in France or the Netherlands because he was angry at the Nazis. Unfortunately, I can’t remember the name of the assassin or his victim and google isn’t much help when you ask them, “who was that guy that killed that other guy in that country?”

Holocaust timeline

Some accounts have it as an attempt, others as an assassination

Herschel Grynszpan assassinated a diplomat called vom Rath.

It provided the excuse for Kristallnacht.

What makes it ironic was that Ernst Vom Rath was anti-Nazi, and at the time of his assassination, was under investigation by the Gestapo. If he hadn’t been assassinated, he likely would have been recalled and executed.

Thanks to all.
