Now… was that so hard?
<drops into geek mode> What language(s) do you program in, Cumber? I’m a PowerBuilder 7 programmer myself, and I use embedded SQL with PB 7. I’m just curious. Hey, this is a get to know you thread is it not?

No, I suppose it wasn’t really.
I’m using Visual Basic for my current project, with a fair bit of SQL as well. I’ve also learnt Haskell and C at uni thus far.
PB is in SLC now. She says she went to a conference,(likely story) <wonder what his name is>
Yes, Ed, you may call me Wy.( PB does that because she is lazy)I cant really tell you what color wire to cut, I have never seen her , but I would bet its purple.(thats her fav. color)
A massage sounds good, but it might take more than that to get the goods on PB, we can work something out. <Im sure>
The stories I could tell about PB, but then you know what they say "paybacks are hell, so maybe I should keep my mouth shut.
Have a good trip, PB and I will chat with you later. Now would be the time for me to tell some stories on her, but I will only say this, her name is Karyn/41/Texas. The rest will have to come from her.
Thanks, lurkernomore and Cumber.
lurker, the quick answer is that King and Clancy didn’t start with thousand-page novels–King’s first, *Carrie,*was fairly short as I recall. Clancy’s The Hunt For Red Octoberwas bigger, but nowhere near as long as some of what he puts out now. (I also think Red Octoberwas originally published by some entity affiliated with naval war gaming before it was picked up by a major publisher.) I’m an unknown, and a long manuscript is not what publishers want to see from unknowns.
But I’m hoping they’ll love it enough to not care.

Sounds like me at that age. Have no fear–it may take awhile, but it will happen.
Oh, there are far too many Dopers that I’d like to be acquainted with to list here, but I thought I’d ask to “meet” a few of them who popped into my mind. So, evilbeth, tatertot, Falcon, Simetra, SwimmingRiddles, TwistofFate, Esprix, Scotticher – hi! Want to be friends? (Let’s pretend that didn’t sound completely pathetic – jeezoman, I’m such a newbie!)
iampunha should probably be up there too, since his name came to mind right away, but he sort of intimidates me…
Here goes.
Name - Tess
Age - 27
Height - 5’7"
Weight - 120-130 (it varies)
Location - Southeastern Michigan
Occupation - Assistant Editor, Video Post Production
Single, Puertorican, Aries.
Painter, Dancer, Reader.
No Pets, No Current SO, Weekend Party Animal.
ExSmoker, Social Drinker, Poker/Eucher/Spades/Hearts Player.
I currently have 1 roommate (a 25 year old female) & will be moving to a townhouse with her & her 20 year old brother in 1 month. I am a champion Jello shot chef. I make a killer lasagna yet still manage to eat at Taco Bell between 3 & 5 times a week. I have my oil changed regularly & drive manual transmision. I never met a movie I didn’t like. I have a large collection of “bad”/cheezy movies (Empire Records, Girls Just Want To Have Fun, Shock Treatment, etc.). I am full of useless information.
Any additional inquiries will have to wait until tomorrow. I am leaving work (16 hrs is too long when you’re sick)
I just realized I forgot to add this to my last post.
Crunchy Frog, so far I know your name is Ron IRL, you seem to find more ways to injure yourself than Chevy Chase on SNL, & you were a Flying Circus performer in a previous incarnation.
It’s your turn. Spill it.
Actually I’ve changed my mind, I can name a couple of people I’d like to know better. Both Uncle Beer and Silver Fire condescended to post on my forum a couple of times, which was nice.
Hey, Cumber. No problem. But, unlike UncleBeer, I actually went back. And probably will again. (I feel so dirty, cheating on the SDMB like this…) Hehehe.
More about me:
I have girl parts. I’m old enough to vote, but not old enough to drink. (In Minnesota, anyway.) Oh yeah, I live in Minnesota. I’m single. I suppose you would say my occupation is “entertainer” but that makes me sound like a stripper or something, so don’t say that. I’m in the middle of trying to maybe quit smoking. I drink. Umm… ask questions, I guess, because I’m not really good at this.
Serendipty (I love saying that, it just rolls off the tounge!)
so, what would you like to know?

First of all, the injury thing may seem a little exaggerated, since I don’t post about all the times I don’t get hurt throughout the day. What have I done? I got shocked and fell through my sister’s ceiling. I got hurt working the Haunted Forest in KY (hey, it’s dark and we’re in the woods. The snake bite wasn’t my fault and falling out of the tree was . . . okay that was my fault, but it was over a year ago.) And I wasn’t really hurt at my sister’s house, so that leaves one injury (that I can remember) in 3 years.
Anyway, to answer your main question:
Name - Ron
Age - 27
Height - 5’10"
Weight - 190-210 (Depending if I’m currently quitting smoking or not)
Location - St Louis, MO
Occupation - Computer Network Associate for AT&T
Ex-Air Force, served 4 years with the 68th Intelligence Squadron at Brooks AFB in San Antonio, TX
Single, Welsh/Irish, Gemini.
Work with pastels, chalks, pencils, charcoal; reader; writer; baseball and football follower; comic book collector (hey, don’t laugh - those will be worth money one day!)
No Pets, Current GF, Partied myself out while in the Air Force.
Trying to be an ExSmoker, Social Drinker, Playstation player.
I currently live alone, but just got a raise at work, so I am looking to upgrade from my apartment to a townhouse. I don’t cook, but not because I can’t, just because I don’t want to go through all that trouble for just me to eat it. I have my oil changed regularly & drive manual transmision. I love films and am a total movie buff, but unlike you, I have met movies I don’t like (Titanic, Babe, Batman and Robin). Ed Wood (the director, not the movie about him, although that was good too) rocks! I have the angora box set of Plan 9 from Outer Space, Bride of the Moster, and Glen or Glenda.
If you can think of anything else, just ask.
Actually Silver Fire, Uncle Beer did post a second time, after you did. Which you would know if you’d been there more than twice.
As for asking questions, I can’t think of a single thing. I’m not really any good at this either.
[mock indignation] Well, why you’re not my bitch, for one. [/mock indignation] Only messing.
Um, I don’t know. Your middle name. Your favorite flavor of Snapple. Your dream occupation. Any random trivia. Surprise me.
Hi Serendipity~
I’d love to be your friend! And now that we are friends, feel free to call me Scotti.
So tell me all about yourself. I love your username, BTW!
Anne, Mango Madness, Librarian, Neil Diamond wrote “Daydream Believer” which was originally recorded by The Monkees.
Will that do?
Scotti
Did he say hi back to me?! ::goes off to look:: Hi, UncleBeer!
Hey, Scotti!
You want to know about me? Wow, let’s see. I’m 19 years old, grew up in lovely upstate New York, and am currently attending Boston College (second-semester freshman). If you’re wondering, you can see an approximation of what I look like here – I’m the unattractive one in the upper lefthand corner. My friends invariably describe me as “sweet,” but I’m pretty sure that’s only because they know how bitchy I’d be if they said otherwise. My dream occupation would be fairy princess. Unfortunately, BC doesn’t offer this as a major, so I’ve settled for psychology. Although I have all the grace of a drunken blind elephant (as I’ve told TVeblen), I love love love swing dancing. The fact that our male instructor is beyond breathtaking doesn’t hurt matters.
Oh, my middle name is Catherine, I used to enjoy Strawberry-Kiwi Snapple (but now I’m partial to Nantucket Nectars Half-n-Half), I already mentioned the fairy princess thing, and, according to a recent survey, more kids in my psychology class use marijuana on a regular basis than smoke cigarettes on a regular basis.
And, in case you hadn’t figured it out, I tend to ramble. Incoherently. And ineloquently. And generally without end.
Hi All. I might as well introduce myself. What I am up to in posts now? 12 maybe?
Let’s see… things about myself I can admit to without scaring everyone off…
I’m a Lotus Notes Developer. If anyone knows what that is raise your hand. It comes down to me making internal dull web pages for large companies.
What I really want to be is a game programmer because computer games make me happy. So I run a computer game web site at http://www.blackclawgames.com and I create levels for games and I’m trying to pick up more programming skills like Java.
I have a Master’s degree in political science with a speciality in International Relations. (So he’s a politcal scientist that works with computers… I think we all know that your degree doesn’t always end up being your career :))
The important thing to know about my background is that I’m trained to argue. My profs made me argue every side of every great political debate there ever was. I can argue for or against Republicans, Democrats, Nut cases, Gun laws, that blue to you is red to me, state rights, speech rights, property rights, Constitutional Law, Night is Day, and yes I am a figment of your imagination. I got good at it and I got my degree. But sometimes I slip into an arguement in a political discussion just for the sake of reliving my days of political debate so I apologize in advance.
I’ve also found that I’m excellent at flame wars. I don’t know why. I just have a knack for putting people down. But then I always feel bad because I don’t like to hurt other people’s feelings, even if they hurt mine first. So I’ll try to stay away from the pit.
Hobbies: Well, when I’m not playing computer games I like Medieval duelist fencing in the SCA. Nothing like having a long metal blade come at you to wake yourself up. It’s better than coffee. Then there’s roleplaying games like Vampire, Warhammer Fantasy, and Shadowrun.
Well that’s a long enough post for now. Any questions will be answered, autographs freely given.
Serendipity,
You must have linked to the wrong image file. In the photo that came up, the young lady in the upper left corner was quite attractive.
Let me guess: you were raised to be charming, not sincere. Thank you, though, that’s very sweet of you and just about made my day.
If you don’t mind my asking, what made you go into computers after studying political science?
'Kay, sweetie, now that you are my friend, I have to take you to task. Because NO ONE belittles my friends, not even themself. So, here is the deal. Blackclaw is right, you are gorgeous. Even if you weren’t physically beautiful, which you are, you are a beautiful person.
So let’s have no more of this self deprecating stuff, okay?
I hate to be such a stern friend, but really honey~you need to believe in yourself, and I am going to make sure that you do.
Hugs~
Scotti
