Get Back Box Set?

Does anybody think we’ll ever get a chance to see a box set of the Get Back sessions from the Beatles? They’ve certainly got enough film and tape to make a kick-ass CD or DVD box set. Now that we’re down to just Paul and Ringo, do you think they’ll ever try to make this project? Surely if they can make a box set out of the Beach Boys Pet Sounds sessions, they could make one out of the Get Back sessions. This era of the Beatles career was woefully underrepresented in the Anthology series, but a friend told me they were saving the material for a seperate set.

Anybody know the scoop?

Don’t have an answer, just agree it would be a great set

P.S. - love your quote from The Donnas

Back in 1995, when the Anthology series came ot, there was talk of releasing Let It Be as Get Back, which was its original title. George Martin and the then three Beatles were going to remix and remaster the album as it was intended. Apparently, none of the Beatles was pleased with Phil Spector’s job. Depsite the recent death of George, I still think it’s a possibility, albeit slim.

we probably will never see a “Get Back” sessions box set. …1) alot of their performances were dross consisting of snippets of tunes (sometimes only a line or two) or they played poorly …2) i am sure the infamous Jan 10 blowup that ended with George leaving or any of the infighting would not be included…3) alot of repeat playing the same tunes over and over [like listening to “Quarrymen At Home” boot from 1960 ,the only diff is the get back sessions had a lot better sound]…4) the only thing i would like released is the complete rooftop performance

If you don’t mind resorting to bootlegs, you can probably get all this stuff already. I have an LP of some of the Get Back sessions, and I know that the entire rooftop performance is out there, though I don’t have it yet.

Good idea, but even better would be to release the outtakes and rehearsals from the “Revolver” and “Sgt. Pepper” sessions. Great googly, why don’t they do that? They’d make a mint!

That’s already been done on the 2nd Anthology 2-disc set.

I know what you mean, and why the content on Anthology isn’t exactly everything you’re looking for.

If you want to hear this stuff, it is available. I’m sure there is a lot of stuff on bootleg CD’s (though I haven’t tried looking). What I have done, though is to spend some time on the alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.beatles (I think that’s the right name). The posters there are pretty hardcore Beatlefreaks and I have frequently found excerpts from the Get Back sessions there. You will need patience, posters post stuff of their own generous spirit, but I can guarantee you’ll see it there before you see it as a commercial box release.

One word of caution… the Get Back/Let it Be songs you have heard on commercial releases are mixed, produced. The stuff you will get online or on bootleg generally is not. That means the sound quality varies greatly and is seldom up to “release standard.”
