I was gonna rant on this one, but… wel honestly the owner of this bar is just to stupid to stay in business. Tell me what you think.
What a fucking idiot. Apparantly he doesn’t understand numbers to well.
Designated driver + friends who are drinking = x
No driver + no friends = y
x > y
Moron
Even funnier are the comments below the article. The very first one really sets the tone of idiocy (if Mr. Wong already hadn’t).
Um…wrong. Dead wrong.
Yes, time is money. And it gets very expensive if you run out of patrons.
amazing story! look for a “going out of business” sale soon!
slight hijack: my brother-in-law runs a couple bars and he was having trouble with these losers bringing their own booze into the bar and playing free pool. well one day, when their back was turned, he claims to have “added a little something” to there mix. he likes to tell us this story, and uses the punchline, “Me chinese, me play joke, me go pee-pee in your screwdriver!”
I gotta say that it was a bad move by the owner, but this:
seems like it belongs in The Onion. I really laughed at this.
I live near this area. I will try to make it there sometime. I just have to see this place for myself.
Don’t forget to order a Pepsi!
This guy is a complete idiot. I know full well what the food cost is on fountain sodas (the cup it comes in costs more than the product it holds) and, while I do not have the same knowledge regarding alcoholic beverages, my estimation is that he is probably making at least as much money on soda as on mixed drinks.
Exactly, which is why most reputable establishments will let the designated driver drink FREE sodas. That and the drinkers will drink with wanton abandon (or at least until they max out their credit card) if they know they don’t have to figure out how to get home afterward.
[Moe Sizlac]Alright, it’s St. Patrick’s Day. Busiest drinking day of the year. Where are my designated drivers?.. OK, Beat it! I’ve got no room for deadbeats.[/Moe]
From the Simpson’s episode where Bart got drunk.
Won’t somebody think of the children?
The irony will be someone getting plastered at his place, getting into an accident, and sueing the living snot out of him.
Why doesn’t the guy just have a cover charge, or charge more for the sodas?
An interesting question: What would happen with someone like me, who can’t drink for medical reasons? Am I not allowed in this guys establishment? Do I need a note from my doctor? “Please excuse Davie from drinking this evening…”
Could this be an ADA violation? I’m not saying that I would ever attempt to bring such charges, I’d just as soon not patronize the idiots establishment, but I wonder what would happen if someone did. Does anyone know of such a case?
I agree with voguevixen. My SO doesn’t usually drink, and I taught him that by talling the staff that you’re the DD, they’ll usually give you free sodas. If they don’t, that’s perfectly fine, but it’s great PR to do so, and only costs a few cents when poured from soda fountains. Believe me, we return to the places that serve us all the alcohol my friends and I want, and take care of the DD too. It’s just good community sense and concern, and it’s also a good move business-wise.
