Of all the fast food joints that could do this promotion… BK is the only one that I won’t bother to go out of my way to get some of their free fries. Even if it was on the way I probably wouldn’t stop in.
The rest of their food is great, but I can’t stand their fries.
When did BK have the best fries? Until a year ago, Wendy’s and McDonald’s were tied for the best fries (of the truly national chains). Wendy’s if you wanted thick, square, and passingly related to potatoes. McDonald’s if you wanted some of that sinful salty oil (lard, fat, whatever) they fried theirs in.
Then Wendy’s went to their “natural cut” and “sea salt” fries. And while they don’t suck, they’re not as good as the old ones.
BK has always had nasty fries. They were only edible in the worst extremity.
Fast food places don’t do good fries. Wendy’s used to do something close to real fries, but they stopped. McDonald’s fries aren’t fries, but they’re crack. BK’s new fries are indistinguishable from Long John Silver’s or A&W fries. Ick. And their old ones were, if anything, worse.
I think Burger King’s fries are the best in fast food. McDonald’s suck unless they are fresh, but BK’s stay good. They used to be horrible, until they added the potato starch.
I meant to get some today, but I forgot. I hope I remember tomorrow. I finally have some gluten-free bread, so I can actually eat a hamburger as intended.
Fries are fries. Besides, they were free. They gave us a whole lot of packets of St. Patrick’s “sauce.” Greener that bird shit. Dunk yer 'tater in that. I was like, "It tastes ketchup, but it looks like…shit.
Got my fries today: but they forgot the green sauce. That’s supposed to be the whole gimmick, right? I was looking forward to being surprised on whether it was green ketchup (as Idle said) or an actual modified sauce (as the link described it). Too bad.
One of my housemates even suggested we drive the fifteen minutes back to Burger King just to get the sauce, but it’s not worth it for green ketchup.
Oh, and the fries aren’t quite as good as I remember. Not enough salt. And salting them doesn’t work, as the salt doesn’t stick.
I just returned from BK with my free fries, but was disappointed they were out of the green sauce. Upon finding out it was just green-colored ketchup, not disappointed any more. Besides, they were free fries!
They had a big to-do about it when they changed their fries from what they used to be (this is like…10 years ago almost now…) to their “new fries”. These fries were the best in fast food, McDs was second, and wendys fries were soggy pieces of crap. Then Wendy’s just changed theirs and now THEY have the best and McDs is still second and now that BK changed to their thick cut they are just not as good…
