Get out of Denver, baby, go! Go!

Yes. Umm, I mean . . . YES!!!

No internet in this hotel except for their business center. More tomorrow, after I have unloaded my truck.

Better get that “Location” updated in your Profile!

Welcome to Canada / Bienvenue au Canada!

And, I agree that Ottawa is definitely not Toronto. I’ve never liked T.O., but I spent a year once in Ottawa and loved it. It’s the right size for a middling big city.

Welcome to Ottawa / Bienvenue à Ottawa!

Jeez Frank, I had no idea until I just read all of this thread. I’m in the west end of the city. Please feel free to contact me for a beer, a chat, directions, thoughts…

And welcome, mon ami.

Will you still moderate from Canada? Is that allowed?

Seriously, you seem like a decent enough fellow to share a beer with. Let me know.

Wait, is that French? I don’t speak French! I’ve already had my pronounciation corrected on Vanier and St. Laurent; no doubt the first of many times that’ll happen.

Unloaded the truck into storage yesterday, that was rough work. Then spent today looking at high-rises. Didn’t find any apartments that both looked good and were available immediately, so tomorrow I work the phones on the classifieds.

I’ll be happy to meet anyone for beer(s), anywhere, anytime. Tonight I’m still beat. I’m going to stroll Parliament Hill, have a bite to eat, buy a French-English dictionary, and collapse. As opposed to last night when I was going to do all those things but instead simply collapsed.

I’m happy to be here, and I’m sorry to be the source of so much confusion to so many Ottawans: “Where you from?” . . . “Denver? And you moved here?” . . . “It’s a nice city, you’ll like it.”

Have I mentioned that I haven’t had a cigarette since I left Denver? Halfway through day seven.

Plus ça change, mon ami?

If you get to see the Changing of the Guards, send me pics! I want busbies this time!

I don’t say ‘eh’ all the time. My parents do. My dad says it with a thick Japanese accent. It’s cute.
Right after you get there, you want to look up Kettleman’s Bagels. They have the best damn bagels I’ve ever had, and they’re open 24 hours. I envy you your proximity to good bagels and good poutine. And welcome to the Great White North! (Current temperature 32C).

High-rises? Oh, you mean apartments.

You can pay the same monthly amount renting as you can for a mortgage Frank. I’m sure that’s the same in Denver though.

I’m not sure what you’re looking for, but my email address should be available through my profile.

Very interesting, I’m going to need to read the entire article now…! Even after six years living in Ontario, I don’t think I ever realised that no one else was saying all-dressed… though “deluxe” does sound familiar from the menus! Northern Piper, you must come from that bizarre little pocket in Saskatchewan that ended up with “all-dressed” for unexplained reasons.

“Toute-garni” works for me too. But I wouldn’t refer to the capital of Saskatchewan [see location] as a “bizarre little pocket”…

Ha, if they think that’s the only vocabulary difference that Saskatchewan has with its neighbours, they’ve never heard of the bunny hug (which is a hooded sweatshirt by the way).

And Frank welcome to Canada. I hope you enjoy living in Ottawa. By the way, you need to start practicing your spelling of places like Science Centre. That’d be an “re” not an “er” for you now.

Good morning, Frank and welcome to Ottawa! PM me if you want to meet for coffee when you are downtown checking out the sights. My office is only a block or two from the Hill!

das 'Glas

Great! We’ll see you at the Calgary Dopefest!
That’s another thing you might have to get used to - Canadians drive. D-R-I-V-E. It’s not a vacation or a long weekend if it doesn’t involve driving to at least one province over.

Good for you! Go Frank, go Frank!

Hey, Frank’s in Ottawa–he just has to drive across the river and he’s “one province over.”

“And it’s a heave! Ho!
Coming down the plains
Stealing wheat and barley
And all the other grains…”
I think “The Mountie Song” might be necessary in-car listening, too. To get into the spirit of Ottawa.

Which I have not yet done (maybe Saturday), though I’m considering expanding my apartment search over there. My great-great-grandfather moved to Massachusetts from Quebec; perhaps I should return?

I’ve got my French-English dictionary - next thing is to sign up for a class.

featherlou, believe it or not, Americans are also a bit car-mad.

You’ve got PM’s blocked. I don’t, or email me. Maybe tomorrow? Or Monday? I’m staying at Bay and Albert, so it would be easy for me to wander somewhere in the area. I’m just not sure what I’ll be doing tomorrow yet.

I’m right next door at 473 Albert! I’ll unblock PMs and we’ll make coffee arrangements!

Good - you’ll have no excuse for not coming to visit.

Hey, Frank, if you’re looking for a nice place for a Saturday or Sunday morning snack to read the paper, i’d recommend the ‘Scone-Witch’, just down the street from the Albert & Bay hotel: wide variety of scones, good tea, relaxed atmosphere. (Good choice on the hotel, by the way - it’s where I stay when I’m in Ottawa. I particularly like the Black Bear pub  .)
