Grab some smoked salmon and get ready to vote for your favorite bulked up bruin. Know your bears.
And if not, talk amongst yourselves. I’m up, caffeinated, and off to heave. It’s currently 71 degrees Ferret Height(21.667 Centipedes)
Local fibre internet ad does not exactly convince me that they know what fibre actualy is:
I mean, “fibre” is literally in the name. I know that idiots might be impressed at “light technology” because they are unaware that the internet is like a series of tubes, but “glass Fibre particles” really gets me excited about refraction and scattering… and packet loss.
Second! (.. still counts?)
PIZZA STORIES!![]()
Coupla nights ago, we’re closed. That means, we’re CLOSED mo-fo, phone has been switched to answering service (our former GM very politely but VERY sternly informing of our hours) and we’re shutting down as fast as we can.
Someone calls. Okay.
Calls again. Same number.
Duude.
Calls AGAIN.
We have The Beatles softly in the background.
![]()
Me: "Nah, nah, nah-NAH-NAH-NAAAAAH, no pizzahhhhh for youuuuuuu…
hey dude.
{ phone rings AGAIN }
… I said NO NO NO PIZZA FOR YOU, hey dude. I said, stop calling us dummmmmmyyy, heyyy dude. HEY hey." ![]()
ETA: this was back of house for our entertainment. We don’t answer the phones like that … but boy howdy did I wanna.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 17c/63f with a predicted high of 20c/67f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “This fucking weather is weak sauce.”
Belated happies, nellie

I am back at work this week, working from home for two days before the trauma of commuting to campus with the schoolies and students. It’s welcome week, so lots going on and of course everyone wants to have their departmental meetings as well.
I’m hoping for a quiet couple of days to get caught up with all the new stuff that’s been happening while I’ve been off, and I have apparently got a load of emails hanging around with my name on them so I’d better get on with it.
There’s always room for some bearcam on the screen though!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 89 and sunny for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is men’s night over to the church house this evenin’. Thus, steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. We shall go over early to do setup etc as we usually do. Until then, however high RDOS sloth shall prevail. I must get back into routine lest I lose my RDOS cred!
doggio I shall sign myself up to vote this week. However, I would win hands (paws) down if I were a participant.
shoe but he is a special snowflake! Surely y’all could have made a pizza just for him! Be reasonable!
BooFae hope irk from home is quiet so’s you can catch up. HAH! I made a funny!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Moanday Y’all!
We’ve got 68 Ferrets and overcast, heading to mid-70s with rain this afternoon. I need to go to the boat and paint the V-berth. There’s not a lot to be painted, so theoretically it won’t take very long. We shall see.
That’s pretty much all on the agenda. The wet dog food is being delivered today, the kibble order from Chewy is due tomorrow. I probably should order cat kibbles, too. So a bit of excitement there.
As for fat-shaming bears, isn’t there enough hatefulness in the world???

From last week:
When we had this place painted 5 or so years ago, that’s what the painters used, and I think it’s crap paint. If I scrub dirty spots, the paint comes off. The slightest bump seems to cause chips. I hate it.
Happy Moanday!
From me too!
Morning all. Up about 6:30am and we’ll see what the day delivers (according to the weather wizards, another day in the 90’sF and a a chance of a shower). Outside of the usual Moanday shopping and sammich run, not much on the agenda for today, so will work on my indoor conditioning (be it Gym- or Air-…). It’s supposed to cool off later this week, if you find high temperatures of 82F cool. We’ll see what else it brings.
doggio, I may have to cast a ballot or two when that site opens up, 910 looks rather healthy and I’ll take a flyer on the 132 Family.
scudsucker, I still have trouble adjusting when people spell it ‘fibre’ and not ‘fiber’…just American hardheadedness…
Shoe, lovely story, I usually catch up on the Not Always Right website before coming here and your stories are at least as good as theirs.
boo fae, the only bad thing about travel is coming home to work…so just think of it as one day closer to retirement…
swampy, have fun solving the world’s problems tonight.
FCM, I have Sherwin Williams and so far no problems in the past several years. Of course I probably don’t scrub spots as often as you do…
And that’s it for Moanday morning. A couple hours and I’ll do the Kroger-Wal-Mart-Jersey Mike’s run and see what the rest of the day brings. Take care all.
At least they didn’t claim it aids digestion.
Maybe it does ?
Good morning.
It’s 50F and cloudy. We’ll have morning fog and clouds, with a mix of sun and clouds in the afternoon, and a daytime high of 69F.
Red, yay for being home AND having the energy to take care of some household stuff!
Shoe, it’s too bad the ringer can’t be turned off after hours, but I get it.
I’ve always used Behr paint and haven’t had issues with it. Semi-gloss or satin do seem to take longer to harden, though. I mainly use flat.
BooFae, I hope your day is smooth and free of interruptions and urgency.
My son hung around until mid-afternoon yesterday, although he did take some time to get a haircut and make a trip to Costco so he could shop without worrying about Zeus. He brought us back chicken bakes from the takeout counter for lunch. We all hung out a while longer, and then he packed up his stuff and Zeus and headed home. Once he left, the pups crashed hard, and this morning, both the pups are under my desk as I type.
I’ll need to putz around in the yard. I have weeds peeping through in many places because I haven’t really been out there every day. I usually pull weeds as I water, but watering hasn’t been an every-day requirement these last couple of weeks, so they’ve had a chance to multiply and spread.
For now, though, I’m going to drink some coffee and savor some quiet time.
Please take care of yourselves!
There’s a company that supports our local NPR station that says it offers “dark fiber network,” whatever that is. That seems like an oxymoron.
Love they neighbor, even if you don’t love yourself. I think that’s how that goes.
That’s probably part of it, the trim is all semi-gloss. Different climates is also a big part, I’m sure. It feels harder today and we carefully moved the dresser and big kitty tree back in. Now I just need to re-dress the walls.
The entry way and hall is next. The former owner was on a walker and there are bolt marks on all of the door trim so patching that will be a bit of a job. I think I want a couple of shades of sandy yellow, but I will need to do some sample painting first. Its really dingy looking and is a bad first impression.
Well crap. I probably won’t be scrubbing as many dirty spots as you, but I still cannot get George to keep his feet off the wall.
Knowing about the pile that’s building up was always the worse part of taking time off to relax or recover from being ill.
Munchies, I’ve got the munchies, I’m dying of the munchies, please, please answer!!!
I’ll order a stupid pizza and then go to sleep before the delivery driver gets here.
So not much is happening today. Hubs has a doctor appointment and now that I’ve finished my coffee, I’m going to do my TC routine and then start stitching. I think it’s probably better for me than might be expected, now that I’m paying attention to how I do things, I’m noticing that my right hand does a whole lot of work under the canvas and doesn’t get to rest between stitches.
Before I go, I wanted to ask…Mollie, how are you feeling physically now? I know about the butterflies but am really hoping the meds don’t make you physically ill on top of everything.
You are one of the bravest people I’ve ever had the honor of knowing. Just sayin’
Have great days everyone, I’ll check back in a few hours when I need a break.
Happy Monday!
There are a few things I want to get done today, but it will mostly be RDOS. It’s so good to be back home. Nelson has found his toys and we’ve been playing fetch and tug-o-war a lot since we’ve been here. ![]()
Y’all have a great day!
Good morning, everyone! I’ve been on estradiol for two days now, and I’ve noticed two things:
- My face is not oily. I mean, I used to get contacted by OPEC for mineral rights for my face, not any more!
- There is very little lead time between “I’m getting tired - I’ll go to bed in a bit.” and “What the hell? I’ve been asleep on the couch for the last three hours!”
I mean - I’m sleeping soundly - I would just rather do it in my bed, rather than on the couch.
I have six pages of unread emails, 90% of which are likely SEPs that I’ve been CC’d on. One thing I’ve learnt is that if I start on the newest ones, I can find the SEPs or the already solved issues, and clear them out.
Dark fiber is lain fiber optic cable that has no traffic on it which can be leased to other telecom companies. It can be very lucrative if done right or a massive money pit if done wrong. If you have dark fiber connecting Atlanta and Charlotte, AT&T and a slew of other companies will come knocking at your door. If you have fiber connecting Fabens, TX with Brownfield, you’d better have enough traffic amongst your own customers to justify that investment.
I had a bit of a headache on Saturday, but I think that was stress. I feel mostly the same, except it’s easier to concentrate on a task. I’ve got a power flow this afternoon, so I’ll have a good idea whether the spiro will mess up my blood pressure. Spironolactone[1] was originally a blood pressure drug, and I’m rather fit, so my BP is already on the low side.
It’s all an act. I’ve only received mostly positive feedback so far. There is a trans kid[2] who works at the local liquor store who is in the middle of her social transition. She’s the brave one.
the weekend, as usual was short. no crows on the saturday shopping trip. just the usual little brown birds and sea gulls.
i scored 2 early birthday gifts at michaels. 50% off and a 10 dollar coupon! whee!
hit the target/harry potter colab. a bit hard. i got way too much treat food and not much proper food.
saturday was a lovely weather day. sunday was rainy on and off, so there was a lot of snuggle with lager time.
paint wise i usually use sherwin williams or benjamin moore. i keep painting to the spring or fall, higher temps, lower humidity. if i do paint in the summer, there will be fans.
i don’t get into college football. there are 2 teams in phila. proper. the uofp quakers, and the temple owls. the owls play at the linc, where the eagles play. the quakers play at franklin field. my father was from nebraska and a serious cornhuskers fan.
last weekend penn state played temple. that was a big game with a lot of people coming into phila. penn state is the big football thing for the middle of the state.
i’m glad you are home with nelson, missred. i hope you stay home a good long time.
onward to the week!
I knew I liked you!!
From where in Nebraska?
I was loading the usual set, which was heavier than usual, plus I had 40 add/cuts in the first truck, plus doing the irregs. Then they added another package car to my set. So seven cars, plus all that. I ended up needing help. especially since I couldn’t do any loading when the 2 chuckleheads starting heaving irregs onto the belt, without calling out the set, or seeing if they went on that side(No, they did not), or even thinking wether or not to throw a busted up box on the belt(they should not have but did). Ay least there wasn’t much cleanup. After work I filled up Carmen($4.29/gal), and did my Aldi run. I got Asiago bagels, creamed cheese, and smoked salmon for brunch.
[Narrator]They do not[Narrator]
And they only way glass fibre particles are involved is if someone accidnetly shoves a drilling auger through the fibre optic bundle.
True. But the Flotato would have been right at home in your cement pond

You’re sure it’s an estradiol patch and not a Nytol patch? ![]()
“All the world’s a stage” - some hack writer
Please don’t. There’s some outfit in West Texas that keeps cutting our fiber.
Afternoon.
Not a very productive day today, but I expected that; I’m crap at writing in the office, too many distractions[1], plus there were a bunch of people I’d not seen in ages there who were in chatty moods.
I also had an email telling me my thesis examiners have been chosen, and who they’re going to be. Eep. Sounds like it’ll probably be in November sometime… Unless, of course, I run away screaming into the hills before the end of next week or have a complete mental breakdown.
OK I’m probably the most distracting person in there, but still ↩︎
