Get your Most-Active-Posters here

Yeah, in about two years iampunha will outpace handy as the most prolific Doper. By his own admission, iampunha has no life.

If the mods are willing to let me have access to the names/numbers, I volunteer to process and post numbers on a timely basis. I work with databases all day anyway. Processing this stuff will be fairly easy for me. So, what about it mods? TubaDiva?

dpr, I resemble that remark.

Besides, it’s utterly untrue. I’m outpaced by a LOT of people. One of which would be you, my dear, had you your usual computer privileges. That’ll teach you to stay up too late. You got grounded.

I do other stuff, I’m just on break now. Plus my little head is filled with all sorts of fun things to say (fun to me, anyway).

I do have a life, though . . . that’s why I’mnot posting nearly as much as I used to.

BTW, handy has over 7500 posts. I’m at around 3330 right now, which means it’ll take over a year for me to overtake him.

Not to cast aspersions on anyone here, but is most posts per day (or even most posts, period), something to strive for?

When this thread was opened, I had the most posts per day. I wasn’t horrified by the thought, but I certainly wasn’t PROUD of it, either. If I had to describe my reaction, it would be a combination of amusement and sheepishness. And I’ve certainly made no effort to “defend my title”.

If I’m proud of a number of my posts, I’m proud of the number that didn’t flame anyone, or otherwise piss off too many posters (and I apologize for those that did). I’m particularly proud of the posts that spoke up for a friend, or gave said friend support. Or the few that made another poster or posters laugh (preferably not at me). And especially the few that made a difference, however small, in another poster’s life (If any did).

I’m certainly not proud of any that pissed people off, or just plain bored them. And I’m sure there were quite a few.
I’d gladly deduct those from my post count (of course, that would probably relegate me to newbie status, to say nothing of being disbarred from the Elite Clique [sup]TM[/sup]).

Further, while I’m sure that many of my posts have been “useless”, I’ve never bumped a thread just to bump it, and I’ve never padded a post count by posting the preamble to the Constitution (or even a Shakespearean soliloquy) one…word…at…a…time.

If I had an SDMB resume (or epitaph, if you’re morbidly inclined), I’d prefer it to detail the (few) times that people said nice things about me, thought I was kind to others, or answered a question (no doubt relating to Shakespeare, sports or history) in a really helpful way. Or that I flirted in a non nauseating way once in a while. Or that I had a few friends here. The fact that I had most posts per day, at one point, would not be prominently mentioned, if it would be mentioned at all.

Certainly I’m not trying to imply that there’s anything wrong with a high post count, or rate. But aspiring to have either for it’s own sake, is, in my opinion, misguided.

No opinion of any other high volume poster is expressed or implied here.

Now I know there is a conspiracy to keep me off of any list.

I have posted 938 times in the 290 days I have been here so my ppd should be 3.3

My name is nowhere to be found.

Hmmm…

You make a good point, DRY. I’m not sure how serious people are about wanting to have high post counts. It seems like this might be one of those straight-faced in-jokes around here, like everyone always talking about Cecil Adams is God or whatever.

[pause for other posters to write, straight-faced, “But Cecil IS God!”]

I mean, I’ve seen people padding their post counts, but I think they do it mostly as a joke. As in:

Poster A: I never pad my post count.
Poster B: Neither do I.
Poster A: It’s lame!
Poster B: You said it!
Poster A: Yep!
Poster B: [smiley face]
Poster C: Are you guys padding your post counts?
Poster B: No! [smiley face]
Poster A: [Twelve posts, only of smiley faces]

In any case, I’m surprised. I know the statistics say it, but could it really be true that I have an average of five posts per day?! I know I’m an addict, but I guess I thought I was more soft-core than that. <-- my current favorite smiley

BorisB-your example is well thought out, except you forgot where ChiefScott comes in at the end and bitches everyone out for smiley overuse.

I don’t really think too many people pad post counts, except as a joke. And if anyone does pad, it’s not like it’s a terrible sin, just (in my opinion) pointless and, again, misleading. I’d rather have one post that almost everyone likes than 10 mediocre ones that no one reads (too late for that, I know).

Also, maintaining an average of 10 or more posts for half a year doesn’t demonstrate staying power any more than someone who’s been here a year and posted half as frequently (such as yourself).

[sub]I shudder to think whether I’m “hardcore” or “softcore”[/sub]

So only the highest posters count? What about the other 11,783 of us!
You’re going to make us cry :frowning:

If you read that thread, you’ll notice 2 things.

  1. There don’t seem to be “security considerations” disclosed.
  2. There were a lot of people excited to look at it, not just the highest posters.

It’s just fun data to look at, and it’s free.
The site goes down for maintenance every night.
3:30 till 3:35. Every. Single. Day.

But, more than that, you can do it “sub rosa” without waiting for a maintenance run.
Just tell only one else the exact minute you are enabling the button. Then Bill H. or your tech guy (sorry, I can’t recall the name) can collect the stats while we’re all unaware and turn the block back on before anyone’s the wiser.

This a board milestone, and even if you keep most of the data secret for some reason there’s no reason not to collect it.

I’d like to see a listing sorted by words per post. Like [Balance], my posts tend to be rather long and I haven’t been here that long.

I’d kinda like to be on a list other than someone’s sh#tlist…

This is probably my shortest post yet.
