Getting 'cat urine' smell out

So I’ve got this coat. It looks like jean material (70%cotton 30%polyester) and ever since I bought it, it’s smelled like cat urine. I bought it brand new and it’s never been actually urinated on by a cat but that’s exactly what it smells like. I’ve washed it MULTIPLE times and I can not get that smell out. If I wash it in a load with other clothes, they all come out smelling like it but will be fine after another wash. I’ve tried hot water, cold water, vinegar in the wash, and nothing seems to take the smell away. I’m completely stumped and as I really don’t want to get rid of the coat I’m hoping someone has an idea as to what might work.

Nature’s Miracle works great if it is truly a cat urine based odor. Spray the coat to saturate and let air dry.

There are more products for that exact purpose.

Nature’s Miracle is great stuff, I use the “Urine Destroyer” variety and it works well to eliminate many odors, even those not caused by my cat. It took the smell of human vomit out of a sheet (after a trip through the washing machine failed), and freshened up some sneakers that got pretty funked up on a (very successful) fishing trip. It’s billed as being as safe as water on fabrics, and my experience at least backs that up.

Nature’s Miracle is glorious stuff, but I’ve noticed that synthetic fibers really hold onto the smell. I would soak it, let it dry, the soak it again, and wash in cold water with another half cup poured in. After that, if it still smells, nuke it from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure.

Time to get a new coat.

SOAK it in straight vinegar, overnight. Then try a wash cycle.

Alternately, you could try a dry cleaner. Once upon a time, a very drunk girl vomited a bottle of wine on my new leather jacket. It took the dry cleaners three weeks (they had to send it out), but they got the wine vomit smell out of it. Although, it’s probably easier to get wine vomit smell out than cat pee smell.
