Getting ready for Halloween......

I’m trying to get ready for Halloween, but for my costume I need a good quality cloak. I pulled mine from the closet, but I’m a bit bigger than I was before being measured for that one. The only place I knew that did good work was in Ft. Worth, but their seamstress died a few weeks ago. Does anybody know of a place in or around Dallas where I can get a decent one? I don’t want one of those cheap things from the grocery store you find at the end of September. Thanks.

Sorry. I thought I was in GQ. Mods, feel free to move this. Or, if you think it would be alright here, I don’t care.

Option 1 - Hawkwood will probably have a vendor that sells cloaks.

Option 2 - Sew it yourself. Cloaks are absurdly simple to sew. You can have a half-circle cloak, which is just a hemmed half-circle of fabric or a full-circle cloak, i.e two half circles of fabric sewn together & hemmed. I have a brown Moroccon Bournouse, which is just a half-circle cloak with a hood (I look like a Jawa when I put the hood up)

Oh, come off it, zyada! Your eyes don’t glow!

Sewing a cloak is simple enough–but I’m lazy, so I ordered mine from Chivalry Sports http://www.renstore.com/cgi-bin/Renstore.storefront/399d7242021c9c4e273fd8a19aef06f0/Catalog/1220/1

It’s overpriced, but it’s pretty nice–and I didn’t have to dig out my sewing machine.

You’re assuming of course that I have some knowledge of this thing you call “sewing”.

I remember last year at Hawkwood, there was a lady and her husband selling really nice cloaks, but the only ones I liked were lined in fur. Too hot for Texas. I am thinking, though, that this would be a good chance to learn how to sew. I need to learn sometime, right? Plus, I could use it as a pickup line. “Hey baby, I know how to sew.” So, do you know where I can get plans on how to sew this thing? Are they called plans? Thank Zyada.

Slightly off topic, but this is most certainly M and P, and IMS it:

My friend and I are going to be Team Rocket for Halloween. I’m going to be Jessie, and he’s going to be james. I’m dying my hair pink (it’s almost long enough anyway) and he won’t dye his hair, so we have to find a blue wig or some decent spray. I’m gonna get some fake tits and wear a skirt and everything.

Now we just need to find someone to be Miawf.

“Prepare for trouble!”
“And make it double!”

They’re called patterns, dear. You can get one at Hancock’s, just ask for the pattern books and look in the back section for Halloween costumes.

Christy’s doing mine up. I think it will make you jealous, Mike. You’ll need 11 yards of fabric. 5 (60" for outer) and at least that much for the liner. I’m using a brown crushed velvet type material for mine. Lining is a stretch sueade.

I’m working on the saber. I’ll let you know when it’s done. I’m close. I’m taking vacation a week from monday, and my plans will be done by then, I promise. I’ll take pics, and let all you guys know what’s up.

Christy might do you up a cloak, but she’ll need fabric, and we’d need to meet…again.

Email me if you’re interested. Remember, school starts tomorrow, so it might take a while.
