Getting Realplayer off my computer, or just regulating it.

Some time ago, I just wanted to see a little video. So I downloaded RealPlayer. My video download is not even RealPlayer. So why, when I try to download a .wav, or most sound files, does it automatically go to realplayer.

This is weird, but when I rightclick and go to “save as,” it goes to windows media player. Personally, I want these sounds to save as what they originally were saved as, before the upgrade. Something that is simple, and can replace everyday windows sounds on my work computer. Like, instead of a “ding” for a new e-mail, I get Mr. T saying “SHUTUP FOOL!”

I used to be able to do it. now I cannot. Help me before I throw someone.

While I am at it, how do I simplify specific sounds

Assuming Windoze, if you go to the Control Panel and select Add/Remove Software, you will get a list of installed software, and I’ve never had a problem trashing RealPlayer that way. If you don’t use, this is the easiest thing to do.

You can also unlink .WAVs from RealPlayer, but unless you have WinXP, I can’t explain how to do it (XP makes it easy to do). It’s sort of a black art before XP.

Well, I can tell you how to get rid of it. Pretty simple:

Click on the My Computer icon on your desktop
Click on Control Panel.
Click on Add/Remove programs
Click on the Real Player name (sometimes two of them, might have to repeat).
Click Remove.

And the reason everything automatically goes to RealPlayer is because you set it as your default player. What else do you have on your computer?

I have “windows media player,” version 7. I find it ironic that when I right click “save as,” it goes to that. When I just click on a sound, I’m getting RealPlayer.

I did not intentionally make it the default. It just is now.

Read Steve Gibson’s page about RealPlayer and see if you want it on your machine:
