I’m getting updates to subscribed threads in my email very, very late–hours after the relevant posts.
Not complaining, just noting in case it’s indicative of a problem.
My understanding is that the system is configured in such a way that the majority of resources is allocated to the reading/writing of posts and the rendering of pages. Other system tasks are lower in priority and in fact when the system is stressed it will sometimes not send mail at all.
Have been noticing our numbers in terms of visitors is really high – like three times the volume we had just a few months ago, when I thought it was like double the volume from a short time ago. A huge lurker population, mostly.
I suspect now most everyone has a cell phone or a tablet and they’re not far away from looking at the Dope all the time. Just a suspicion on my part, though.
It’s entirely possible we may have hit another of those situations where we have run out of pipe. It had been a while since that happened, had forgotten what life is like when that’s the situation.
