The full decision is at:
Her crime is serious but she’s not a high security risk.
Maxwell isn’t going to shank another inmate, injure a guard, or tunnel under the walls.
I don’t have a problem with her in a low security prison.
It costs Taxpayer’s a lot less.
She’s still serving a long sentence and having her freedom taken away for committing crimes.
She could still be a “suicide” risk…
–Shrug–
That’s a risk I’m willing to take.
That’s a relief, when I saw the thread pop up I was afraid the bitch got a pardon.
I am sure she will before trump leaves office.
Should all prisoners convicted of similar crimes be subjected to similar conditions? Should we be OK if some of them get nicer, lower-security prisons due to wealth or political connections? Is everyone equal under the law in this country?
Probably a good topic for GD. In theory the incarceration and length of the incarceration is the punishment. The levels of security are not supposed to be different levels of punishment. It’s supposed to be security measures for the safety of the prisoners and the other inmates due to the behavior of the prisoner. The reality versus theory and what you may think it should be is beyond the scope here.
She was already in a low security prison, where she got credible threats, which is why she was moved to a minimum security facility.
Right. Putting a prisoner in Higher Security prisons are not for punishment, it is due to how dangerous they are, how violent their crimes were, and sometimes due to escape issues.
We had many posts in a P&E thread about sending her to a minimum security prison already/
And prisoners (at least in my state) can be moved from one level of security to another at the discretion of the prison administration, without judicial intervention.
Moderating:
We are trying to decrease the amount of misogynist language on the board. Not because we don’t want you to insult people like this, but because using misogynist insults also insults every other woman.
Thanks for your understanding.
Shouldn’t the correct response to this be to move her to a higher security prison, where she could be more closely guarded?
She’s the most famous child molester on earth. She will get credible threats in any and all prisons. The only way to keep her safe in prison is isolation and that is not what FPC Bryan is set up for. She will never be safe. Not here, not where she was, not anywhere. It is a point of pride for other prisoners to put sharp objects into people like Ghislaine. I suppose putting her in a low-security prison camp means putting her with inmates who aren’t hardened criminals who will gladly tack 20 more years onto their life sentences for a chance at fame but then again, the women who were already in FPC Bryan weren’t in there for selling Girl Scout Cookies either. FPC Bryan offers vocational training, landscape maintenance, kitchen operations and craft/hobby programs or in other words, an abundant variety of shanks.
However, Ghislaine still has access to a lot of money and that buys her safety once she is out. So once Trump pardons her, all she needs is a ride to the airport and she’ll be safe in some gated mansion in France, where she can’t be extradited back to the US to face any state charges. It is maddening but this evil woman is one phone call away from being rich again and setting up shop to molest children again.
The women’s equivalent to ADX Florence (the highest-security facility in the US, the vaunted “Alcatraz of the Rockies”) is FMC (Federal Medical Center) Carswell. From their Wiki page, it looks like there have been several deaths, including prisoners who died in the same “definitely a suicide and certainly not a murder no matter what the evidence says” manner as Epstein. But I’m sure they’ve fixed those issues by now and they should send Ghislaine there to show prison reform in action.
Yes, i have to think someone who is in prison for 5 years would be less inclined to commit murder in prison than someone in prison for life.
Which… is probably why hardened offenders like Maxwell aren’t supposed to be in such a prison. We really need to reframe this problem: she’s not locked up with them, they’re locked up with her. She is the monster that other people—even other prisoners—need to be protected from.
She is a serial child sex trafficker. The shadowy boogeyman that people on the right are always accusing their political opposition of being, she actually is.
Yes, she’s a very bad person. But there aren’t children, nor men to sell them to, in prison with her. I don’t think she’s very dangerous to the other inmates, in any US prison.
What prison they put you in isn’t supposed to be about how bad you are. It’s supposed to be about keeping everyone safe and contained.
There may not be girls in prison, but there absolutely are young women in prison. Moreover, I think there are plenty of other ways she could use her access to wealth, her privilege, and her apparent willingness to engage in sociopathic behavior towards other people to take advantage of and harm other inmates.
This is a woman who habitually preyed upon the vulnerable for personal gain. It absolutely matters how “bad” she is to the extent it may signal how she might behave towards other inmates who are still worthy of being protected from such predators despite being incarcerated
