Trump is making a deal with Ghislaine Maxwell to exonerate him and accuse his enemies

The Epstein files scandal seems to finally be something that’s gaining some traction against Trump. They can usually just do something even stupider, more evil, and more outrageous and have their latest scandal vanish as everyone focuses on the new one, but even a significant fraction of MAGA seems pretty pissed off about this one.

And so… You’re all probably aware that the Department of Justice is talking to Ghislane Maxwell. DOJ's meeting with longtime Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell happened after Maxwell initiated contact: Sources - ABC News. What do you think the reason for these interviews are? Certainly if they think that she has the evidence to stop sex trafficking of children and bring those who committed it to justice, they would’ve pursued that angle long ago, right? Why the sudden interest in talking to her? Those are rhetorical questions, of course – it’s obviously corrupt.

The person conducting these private one on one interviews? Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. Deputy Attorney General might sound like a reasonable person to be conducting interviews with someone who could be a witness in a new case. But
Todd Blanche is Trump’s personal criminal defense lawyer
. Trump appointed him to the position with the specific goal of having him corruptly protect Trump.

I would bet anything that the interview between Blanche and Maxwell as not Blanche attempting to honestly interrogate a witness, but rather to concoct a plan to not only attempt to exonerate Trump, but also target his political enemies. He’s instructing Maxwell to come out and testify that Trump wasn’t involved at all in raping children and the whole sex trafficking operation. In fact, he may even make her give some bullshit testimony that suggests that he heroically tried to put a stop to it or something else that makes him look good. As a reward, of course, she will be pardoned. Even offering her “limited immunity” seems like a way of keeping her on track – her immunity is good if she says what they want and void if she says anything else.

But it’s not going to be enough to try to exonerate Trump. They’re going to use this opportunity to turn this around on Trump’s enemies, too. MAGA looked forward to the release of the supposed Epstein files because they thought it was chock full of democrats, and Trump is going to give that to them. Maxwell is going to testify that all sorts of prominent democrats and any other political enemies of his were raping kids on Epstein Island. And MAGA will absolutely believe all of it, and all of the “centrists” in America will probably believe it too. Maybe they’ll realize it’s bullshit that it exonerates Trump, but this will fuel their favorite activity – saying both sides are just as bad as each other. They’ll assume the accusations against Trump are credible, but so are the accusations against everyone Maxwell names, so what can you do. Trump may even get rid of some of the dissenters in his own party, though there are so few of those that it may not even be worth it. But I wouldn’t be shocked to see someone like Thomas Massey targeted by these lies.

Trump has recently been posting to from official white house social media accounts images of arresting and harming Barack Obama. I wouldn’t be shocked if he uses this opportunity to start arresting his opponents. It may even be a little bit like Saddam’s coup where he started dragging out members of their congress on live TV, though I’m not sure Trump’s goons have that level of competence to execute something that smoothly. It will likely be tepid, unorganized, and badly planned like January 6 – but the resistance will be ineffective. The democratic party is pathetic and our justice system is already thoroughly compromised.

It’s coming and soon. It’s going to be ugly. I don’t know what’s going to happen, if something can stop it, but as pathetic as the democrats have been, I don’t think they’ll fight it effectively, which means that Trump may indeed jail his political enemies while democrats whine about it, the major media outlets justify it as some sort of normal, and the MAGA base goes absolutely wild in support of Trump.

Unfortunately, I don’t think you’re wrong.

I find the OP plausible until the last paragraph.

Consider this:

No one can stop the police from arresting the wrong person if that is what they want to do. There is no cause to tear down “the democrats” for not doing the impossible.

Judges can order falsely arrested people freed, but judges are not “the democrats.”

That’s a fair correction, but let me just say I did reference our corrupted and ineffective justice department too. The democratic party would be expected to fight in various ways – including rallying the public to fight this, and also to use their political power (such as congress’ power of investigation and general checks against the executive branch) – but they will be ineffective in doing so. Our justice norms are at least partially destroyed and while it’s possible that an honest judge could throw in road blocks here and there, as they have complete and corrupt control of the department of justice, can’t they pick the judges that oversee these things? And if it was taken all the way up to the Supreme Court, we already know they’re compromised.

I’m waiting in eager anticipation for the testimony of Liz Warren’s sexcapades on the Lolita Express and someone to shoot up a minigolf course looking for the secret pedophile bunker of Tim Kaine under the Dutch windmill. This either becomes the point at which even non-MAGA Republicans realize they’re being taken too far on a ride down a dark and lonely road and start pushing back within the party (for whatever that is worth), or they drive us all off a cliff, and frankly my confidence in what Republicans will do in their own long term self interest is at a negative index. Trump’s performative mock persecution of ‘enemies’—even those with absolutely no power to do anything to block or stop him—is indicative of his thin-skinned intolerance to even the slightest disagreement, and his MAGAt-filled cabinet and other appointees are doing everything possible to fête “Dear Leader” and cater to his every absurd whim, including Kristi Noem posting pictures with transparent Nazi dog whistles in the caption. Remember when we use to cheer Indiana Jones punching Nazis out of airships and running over them with a truck?

Maxwell is for sure either making a deal or finding her way to accidentally falling head first down a stairwell or choking to death on her toothbrush. Or maybe both, because a deal with Trump is like cotton candy in a rainstorm; you grab it, smell it, taste it, and then suddenly it is just a sticky patch on your fingers from shaking his hand.

Stranger

Yes, I agree. It might be that Maxwell doesn’t even need to lie, just start spilling every non-Republican name on the list. I’m sure that’s small compared to the list of Republicans, but it’ll be enough.

If we are talking about Barack Obama being arrested for treason, or something else he didn’t do, I’m thinking there’s a decent chance of a jury acquittal, even if the judge is a Republican. I can’t see SCOTUS overruling that.

If it has to do with Epstein, maybe they will find one or two elderly Democratic politicians who were not all they should have been back in the last century, and it will come down to SCOTUS interpreting the statute of limitations.

Democratic politicians will give speeches and even picket court houses, using the word FIGHT over and over, because that’s what their base wants. But it won’t do a bit of good. There’s no way to stop MAGA without winning more elections.

I’m going to say probably not.

Yes, I agree that Trump and his cronies are offering Maxwell a deal to testify that Trump is completely innocent. But I don’t think they will try to get her to give any false testimony directed at other people.

Trump wants this whole thing to go away. He doesn’t want to have it turn into an actual court case. Because he can say anything he wants now but there are rules in court cases. If Trump or Blanche offer Maxwell some promise to get her to claim that Joe Biden was having sex with minors, then she’ll have to repeat that in court. Where she’ll be facing Biden’s lawyers. Who will require her to go on record about whether she was offered any deal by Trump’s people to give false testimony. Where she will face the possibility of a long prison sentence for perjury. Where she will have the opportunity to be granted immunity in exchange for testifying against the people who paid her to commit perjury.

Now granted, Trump’s a moron. He probably doesn’t understand the dangers of offering somebody a bribe to lie in court. But some of his middlemen are smart enough to realize the dangers of committing felonies and how doing so puts them in the line of fire. So they will just agree with Trump when he rants and raves but then they’ll go out and do something else. And count on Trump mentally wandering off on to some new subject.

Offering Maxwell a payoff to get her to exonerate Trump is a lesser risk. It keeps Maxwell out of court so it avoids the perjury risk. And lying to exonerate a guilty person doesn’t create the same kind of target that lying to implicate an innocent person does.

He wants his enemies to go through what he went through — trial and conviction. Then he wants for them what he escaped — imprisonment. Almost any strongman leader would make such revenge a priority, and he’s a strongman.

He’d rather it be done outside an Epstein context. There you are correct. But the important thing is to find some way to get back at the Democrats. Something to do with elections and Russia and treason is Trump’s preferred route. But if hanging an Epstein related charge on Bill Clinton is the closest to legally plausible way to do it, he’ll go for it.

Trump’s base will believe what they’re told, that’s why they’re his base. If they were smart, they wouldn’t be MAGA. America is post democracy and this is yet another indicator. Tell me again about Kent State.

‘Mr. Kent State is bigly in the Epstein Files!’ ~ MAGA voter

I disagree. Trump wants to be a strongman. But he’s actually pathetically weak.

That aside, Trump will constantly accuse other people of committing crimes. But notice how rarely he actually charges them with crimes. And I feel this will happen again.

The main question would be who is going to believe Maxwell’s testimony, given that it would obviously be done with incentives in the OP scenario. It would be considered tainted and unreliable in everyone’s eyes from the start - that is, everyone except the MAGA faithful, who didn’t needed Maxwell’s testimony to keep them on Trump’s side to start with.

Trump’s followers will generally jump off of any cliff for him but if he pardons Maxwell after she swears he did nothing wrong… well, that will be interesting to see.

She’s better off in jail anyhow. What is she going to do when she gets out? Go back to grooming teenage girls on behalf of some new creep? It’s not like she’ll ever be able to get an actual job.

Is this some sort of joke? If she hands over the “proper” names and excuses Trump, then he pardons her, the MAGAs will do nothing but nod and applaud.

I honestly wouldn’t trust anything incriminating Maxwell had to say about Trump himself without corroborating evidence. She’s got every incentive at this point to just tell people what they want to hear if it’ll get her out of prison any quicker.

How exactly does incriminating Trump get Maxwell out of prison quicker . . . unless it’s in a body-bag of course.

I agree. Maxwell’s testimony, no matter how blatantly false it appears, will be believed by the magas because it’s corroborating what they already want to believe. They’re just looking for an excuse to believe Trump and this will provide it.

It doesn’t. The point I was making is that I wouldn’t trust Maxwell even if she was saying something I wanted to hear. Not without good corroborating evidence.

First?

Reunite with family. She was married in 2016.

She also has a large circle of friends, not every one of which will desert her.

Very few inmates are better off in prison.
