Ghost Ads

I work in Pasadena, California, which is one of the older cities of L.A. County. As I drive through “Old Town”, especially on the smaller streets, I do see these ghost ads everywhere. One of my favorites is off of Raymond Avenue, which is for a furniture store.

A ghost illuminated ad:
On a convenience store on the south side of Lakeshore Blvd, just west of Long Branch Ave, is a sponsored sign that gives the name of the store, Thomas Variety, as well as the name of the sponsor. The sponsor? The Toronto Telegram, a newspaper that hasn’t been published for thirty years…

If the owner of the store doesn’t replace it soon, it’ll be declared a Historical Artifact. And then the developers will ignore the historical designation, rip it out anyway, and put something new, cheap, and tacky in its place. Toronto is not kind to its history…
