Giant squid and calamari

The Discovery Channel is having a show tonight showing the first ever photographs of a living giant squid.

So I’m going to watch it with my g/f, swinging by Buca di Beppo for a take-away order of calamari that we can munch on while we watch it.

:slight_smile:

Of course you know giant squid calamari would be the size of truck tires, and probably not as tasty.

True, that (as I understand it). The larger squid have too much ammonia in their tissues to be edible.

I do loves me some calimari, though.

Wouldn’t it be cool if giany squid were intelligent and were screwing around with udersea thermal vents to cause global warming and get rid of humans?

Yes, it would. :slight_smile:

The calamari was tasty – only it didn’t have the cute little octopi in it. I like those. The show? Eh.

In typical Discovery fashion, they had a big build up with a so-so payoff. What? The camera failed? Won’t we get to see the giant squid? Of course we will. That’s the point of the show. It was nice to actually see stills of a giant squid, and the still-moving tentacle they brought aboard their boat was fun. But my g/f thought they took too long getting there.

I liked that they were looking for the squids off the Bonin Islands. I can’t think of a better place to look for a ‘sea monster’. :smiley:

Giant Squid Minion: “Dammit, sir! The humans are onto us!”
Giant Squid Vader: “Yes, so it would seem. Boba-Squid, find this DanBlather and… TERMINATE HIM!”
::dum-dum-DUMMMMMMMM::

That was actually what caused the last ice age, and led to the development of the mnemonic “righty tighty lefty loosey”
