Giant squid have a funny design flaw

Mammals have their airway and digestive tract linked which can lead to suffocation if something goes wrong when swallowing. You’re probably familiar with a whole host of other strange evolutionary artifacts in the eye, prostate, various skeletal structures, and so on. Well, giant squid have their own “WTF?” design. Their esophagus goes through their brain. And it’s a very small tube. If they ingest something too large it’ll get stuck. They will sustain brain damage.

I learned of this via a documentary I saw on TV about the colossal squid they caught intact and is now in a New Zealand museum. I want to say it was on Animal Planet but maybe not. Anyway, they dissected a giant squid for fun and showed how this little tube went through the brain itself. Now* that’s* some intelligent design.

Well, thats certainly food for thought.

Given man’s penchant for overindulgence, glad we’re not wired that way… need that like a hole in the head.

Also, they told us that the anus is located right next to the gills.

I’ve long heard that fish is “brain food,” but this is ridiculous.

You are so going to Hell for that!

Is there room in that handbasket for this perpetrator?

Ouch.

Yes, I’ll have to take some time to digest that information.

Think of the brain freeze if it consumes a shake.

Mumble mumble…head up its ass…mumble

Uh, the squid doesn’t know its ass from a hole in the ground?

Er, or in its head?

That, + copper-based blood, + high IQ + manipulative digits…I wonder if squid are Shadow Life?
