I know of 2 other people who were unable to pay a gift membership - the money was credited to the account of the person paying instead of the giftee. Anyone else had this happen?
Was the name of the giftee included in the comment section? It’s been a while, but last time I gave someone the gift of membership, it was straightforward and worked nicely.
The gift subscription plugin was broken by the recent upgrade to the vBulletin version. If you have submitted a gift subscription that did not work correctly please send an email to webmaster@straightdope.com with the details. Include your username and the username of the person you were giving a gift subscription too. I’ll make manual changes to apply the gift.
For the time being I’ve disabled the ability to give gift subscriptions until I have time to analyze the old plugin and determine what is needed to get it to work on the new version.

While you’re at it, can you make it so that Charter members can buy a gift membership with out having to pay $7.95 twice? and then having to Email you anyway because the subscription still wont activate?

I just tried it and it’s still disabled… so I guess no resolution yet. Poopy.

I’m confused. Jerry said he disabled that feature and offered a workaround to apply gift subscriptions. Didn’t that process work?
I think he offered the workaround only for those who had already done the gift subscription and were having trouble making it work. I think.
(I may think wrong - often do.) 
Maybe you should just send the recipient cash.

Also, how is it that that was your 10,000th post? Don’t get me wrong, as a Deadhead I couldn’t have thought of a better benchmark post, but just momentarily amazed at the low number. Did counters get reset or are you a pseudo lurker despite the high profile?
Unfortunately the answer to the status of gift subscriptions is that I do not have time to implement them again after the version upgrade. So until something changes gift subscriptions will no longer be an option offered by the SDMB. My apologies.
