Every time I see this thread, I think of Gus Grissom. I guess he was pretty well desiccated.
I wish Gus Grissom got his own TV show. And was the first man to walk on the moon, too!
Stupid Right Stuff movie trashed his character, and that’s all most people know. “Squirmin’ hatch blower,” indeed. Yea, movie writers, NASA thought he was so dangerous, they gave him command of the first manned Gemini mission.
(and in case anyone reading doesn’t know, Gil Grissom was named for Gus.)
He was also to be commander of Apollo 1.
I couldn’t help but poke around online to see what some of the longtime CSI stars who apparently weren’t invited to return had been doing since the show ended. I was really struck by the near-total lack of credits for Eric Szmanda, who played Greg Sanders. Now, I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with wanting to take at least a little break after doing 300-plus episodes. But I have to think that, if I had been in his place, I’d have taken whatever clout I had built up being on one of the defining shows of its era and used it to fuel the passion project of my dreams.
