Was Grissom shown the door...

…or did he leave CSI of his own volition?

Just wondering.

By all accounts, Peterson was getting bored and wanted out – he’s going to be doing live theater, I believe. I see no reason why this would be a face-saving story: CSI is a huge money-maker for all concerned, and there would be no reason to get rid of the main star.

Fishburne has to have an even bigger contract than Petersen, for that matter.

Grissom isn’t going to die; he can still come back for cameos if the ratings need goosing.

Remember when Liev Schrieber did his 4 or 5 episode stint when Grissom went on sabbatical? That was written in so Petersen could go do a play. Apparently he has always been really into theater and decided he was done playing the same character every day. He’ll be back though most likely, just like Jorja Fox came back.

Why was Warwicke killed? I rather liked him.

Anyone could play Grissom. I saw nohing special about his character. I didn’t dislike him at all. But to me he was little more than a deliverer of lines.

Huge nitpick but I see it all the time…his name was Warrick. And I’m not sure why he was killed off, I quit watching the show awhile back and missed all the eps around that event.

I disagree though, I think William Petersen made Grissom a standout character. Grissom is a complicated character and I think Petersen is good with the subtle stuff that makes Grissom Grissom. He was the person that held the whole team together, his role is most important on the show, IMO.

Okay with me. I saw him as mosly bland.

Thanks for the correction on Warrick.

IIRC, it was mostly because of Gary Dourdan’s drug problem, and the related legal consequences thereof.

Peterson is co-excutive producer of the show (i.e., the person responsible for hiring and firing the actors). Highly unlikely he fired himself.

In ny event, I enjoy CSI much more than NCIS, which to me is an unending series of one nauseating cliche after another.

I’m gonna watch my first episodes of 24. Hope the 4-hour curtain raiser is a smash.

And now, off to bed I go.

Peace. And thank you all for the inputs.

His actor was fired because of a drug problem.

I don’t mean any disrespect to twickster because I like her, But Petersen never said he was “bored” with CSI just that it was time for a change. I don’t think he would ever dis his co workers that way. They seem, by all accounts, a pretty close lot.

Petersen is still an executive producer of CSI and has said in interviews that he will revisit the show in the future.

And Dourdan was indeed fired because he was pain in the ass. Too bad, I’ll miss his prettiness.

As a chessplaying computer gaming roleplayer, Grissom is my hero.
It was brave to make such a geeky nerd the lead and I think Peterson does a superb job.

No offense taken – and none intended by him towards his castmates or the show. There’s a long interview with him in the new Entertainment Weekly, which I read and was paraphrasing. (I personally don’t see a huge difference between “I need new challenges” and “I’m bored with what I’m doing now,” but that may be my own ennui speaking. :D)

Oh, I know you didn’t mean any offense, I’m just likening it to my experience with the SDMB: It’s not boring, but sometimes it stalls and I have to go elsewhere for entertainment. Still, I always come back.

Just when I think I’m out…

So, as someone who hasn’t kept up with recent changes, why/how was the CHARACTER of Grissom taken off the show?

IIRC, he pretty much came into work one day and told his team he was leaving. With the death of Warrick and Sara bailing recently, he’s been through a lot. I don’t know if they told us where he is going, but one can assume he might be going with Sara wherever she ended up and/or teaching again.

You’re going to have to tune in January 15th like the rest of us. But I do hope he will find his hope with Sarah. I hate that Gil, Sarah and Warrick are gone, but I will keep an open mind.

Were the Liev episodes good? I haven’t watched CSI in years, but would Netflix the Schrieber eps if they’re interesting.

BarnOwl: Like I said in another CSI thread, I’ve always loved CSI with a passion because of Petersen, and I’ve always hated CSI: Miami with a passion because of Caruso.

So, obviously, YMMV.

But Petersen, bland?

Nuanced would describe it much more accurately, in my very humble opinion.

A quality Caruso could NEVER aspire to achieve in acting.
