Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

I couldn’t find a thread for this, somewhat surprised. But perhaps the male-skewing demographic means that there aren’t that many fans of the show around. Personally, I think the original series is a perfect jewel and an antidote to the horribleness of now – the revival doesn’t have to do much for me to be thrilled.

Anyone else super-excited for Friday?

I’ll have the house all to myself, so I’m planning an all-day binge.

Lots of people are hosting viewing parties and such, or so I hear. For my party of one, I couldn’t find Pop-Tarts (I’m in Germany), but I’ve got a lot of junk food to eat, and plenty of coffee. And I’ll be able to get donuts!

Not sure when I’ll start watching, but I’m really looking forward to it!

Well, at least there’s two of us!

I’m so excited. I really hope it lives up to expectation because I absolutely love the original show.

My daughter and I can’t wait! I watched the series when it originally aired, and she binge watched it on demand and loved it too. She’s 15, her birthday was last month and we signed up for Netflix as a gift for her(I know we are behind the times!) She was thrilled because she was so disappointed she wouldn’t be able to see it. We plan on binge watching tomorrow!

I’m male, and I’m looking forward to it too. With the exception of the last 1.5 seasons it was a great show. Hopefully it picks up where it left off.

My daughter is more than a tad upset that she’s scheduled to work when it first becomes available. Of course, she can catch it later at her convenience, but she really wanted to see it hot off the digital presses, as it were.

Besides, it’s going to be hard to deal with Black Friday customers when she can feel it vibrating in her fillings.

I’ve just got my mother into it; I doubt she’ll watch the revival right away because she hasn’t seen any of the last two seasons (which were, I agree, less good – I actually enjoyed season 7 more than season 6 which I gather is blasphemy).

It is a great show for anyone, but I think it’s extra-special for mothers and daughters to watch together

I’m excited for it, as is my wife and older daughter. The only problem is that my daughter is writing an exam Saturday morning, so we can’t start it until after lunch on Saturday.

No spoilers please!

My wife is eagerly awaiting this. I on the other hand am disappointed that Lauren Graham was not in Bad Santa 2, no doubt as a result of this Gilmore thing.

Okay I think we can hold off on the spoilers for a day or so

TriPolar, I saw Bad Santa (great movie!) before I ever saw Gilmore Girls. I’m not sure if that was a good or bad thing…

I liked the show early on, though I grew to loathe Lorelai as it continued, and think the whole thing should have wrapped when Rory graduated from Chilton. I’m amazed that they got McCarthy to return for it, given her movie career. I’ll watch the first ep, but I’d rather they resurrected Bunheads.

My wife is totally pumped for this. I watched an episode here and there with her in reruns a few years ago, so I’m somewhat familiar with the show.

I am planning on watching it with a smile on my face and joy in my heart. It’s the least I can do for all the Star Wars and comic book movies and shows I’ve put her through over the years.

Another male here.
Several years ago I had back surgery and was stuck in bed for six weeks. During that time I turned on the first episode as I was bored out of my mind and gave it a chance. I loved it. The smart quick dialogue, the world that was so nice and everything else most fans like. I devoured the whole series. I got my father into it and he loved it as well.

I’m really looking forward to going back to that world again and seeing what happened to them all.

I’ve been fighting to catch up on the last season for the last couple months, but haven’t had the time. I literally only have five more episodes to watch to be fully caught up, but I don’t know if I can do it, as I’m very much disliking the seventh season. I might just find some detailed recaps and then start the new stuff when I get home from work.

Finished it. I’m not normally one to just binge but it was compelling and I had nothing else planned other than hiding from Black Friday traffic.

Really liked it with one glaring exception. Can we talk spoilers yet?

Ok, so no spoilers. But, I had literally just finished saying to my wife “this is why Amy Sherman-Palladino is one of my favorite TV writers” when Rory went to visit her Dad. At which point I remembered why the show so frequently made me mad when it was first on. As much fun as she is, she is also fond of telegraphing her punchline and making the choice that is most shocking even if it’s not the most logical.

Not to say I didn’t love it. Just that, dammit, you know?

I didn’t like it nearly as much as I’d hoped to. But then, Lorelai repeatedly got on my last nerve throughout the entire series. And I enjoyed the various story arcs, even if there were parts that I thought could have been done better.

I just finished rewatching the last season yesterday, and the thing that really struck me was how some of the actors had aged, except for Rory - she looked exactly the same.

My middle child loves Gilmore Girls. We spent the day watching all four. Daughter loved it. I had fun watching it, but it doesn’t quite have the zest of the first couple of seasons. Rory is definitely still not my favorite character. We were happy to see Paul Anka.

Czuchry (Logan) looks the same, too, from what I could tell. Zach really aged well…
