Gimme a Na! Gimme a No! Gimme a Wri! Gimme a Mo!

I’m in. After a couple of tries is other years, I finishes last year. I think I’ve got the method down.

Are you guys going to local meetings?

Nope. May check into this thread to brag, if it’s going well - otherwise it’s going to be a completely solo effort.

I may be in. I still have two days to decide, so I am taking all the time I can. Mostly, I just need a good start, and I worry about getting that. I think I can do it though, since I have 5 hours of dead time at school several times a week now that I’m a commuter, since I don’t want to drive back and forth repeatedly (it is an hour away).

Any ideas from the dopers? I’m wanting to try it. The longest story I ever wrote was about 10,000 words.

Brendon

I’m working on a ‘serious’ book this year, but I had a few good writing days last week and if I somehow pulled off 50,000 words next month, I’d be almost finished with it.

Aw, man! ::crosses that idea off the list::

Nope, but I’ve got some friends on LJ who are doing it too, so I don’t feel entirely isolated.

Can’t go to meetings, too busy writing.
My friends and family expect me to pay attention to them as well - bastards!
I’ll probably check in here and another couple of websites, just as part of the daily procrastination.
The nano forums are a great resource for hitting your daily word count. The character who swore exclusively in Yugoslavian was very useful indeed.

Good luck everyone.

I’m in. Writing about a reporter infiltrating the “vampire” subculture.

I will not let myself get bogged down with worrying about it making sense or thinking it might be too silly. Editing and worry can come later!

Is everyone ready? Less than 8 hours to go!

Stocked, locked, and ready to rock! This year’s novel is going to be a nice noir-style mystery. Let the typing begin!

I’m in. I did it last year and finished. This year, I expect to have a slightly tougher time, both because I’m trying to write with better structure, and because my plan doesn’t quite as easily lend itself to the car chases and mysterious gunmen that helped my last attempt be such a wordy success.

But, if all else fails, come Nov. 28, I expect my small-town characters to devolve into a 20K word maelstrom of secret plots and fisticuffs. Including the cat.

I considered joining in this year, but I’ve decided to put it off. I’ve just finished a writing project (my “curious parcel” thread) and have another in the outline stage. I don’t want to derail it for a month.

Now, if my new project hasn’t gotten past the outline stage by the time the next NaNoWriMo rolls around…

I’m in. My hopes aren’t terribly high for success, because I’ve got honking heaps* of schoolwork that take priority over writing, but I’m racing a friend who’s taking a similar course-load. Even if I don’t make it to 50,000, I’m at least going to beat him in word-count.

*This is a technical measurement; quantity of schoolwork is meant to be measured in heaps. A honking heap is equal to one hundred heaps. It’s like metric, only sounds more like a duck.

There is always room for car chases and mysterious gunmen.

This year, I think I’m doing just straight romance. Girl meets boy, girl loses boy, girl gets boy back at word 49500.

These are fun for me because I’ve never wanted to be a writer. I avoided creative writing classes like the plague, I never secretly planned the Great American Novel, I don’t have collections of short stories around - but for one month a year, I get to be a coffee drinking, deadline driven, slightly insane novelist.

7 hours to go…

And, it’s on. Off to start writing on the firm’s nickel any minute now. (As they’re implementing yet another round of redundancies and I’ve got a big fucking target on my back, my loyalty is at an all-time low at the moment, which is saying plenty.)

I am definitely attempting. I have had an idea floating around for ages…

this in particular appeals to me:

Good Og I can’t believe I’ve started. I might have 100 words or so, but that’s better then nothing I guess. At least with the vacation this year we’re not doing anything but going to the beach, now I’ll have something to do. I guess I’ll be seeing a lot of Dexter the motorcyclist over the next couple of weeks.

But why am I wasting words here and not in my book? Damn you SDMB.

ETA: The NaNoWriMo was on the local news this morning, they do a web section every day or so.

I’m in, first year. Tried last year - got too busy

Wish me luck

I’m in, too! I hesitated, but just signed up. I had just posted a thread about how I wished I still wrote like I did when I was a kid when I saw this thread. I’m really just doing it to force myself to write, and we’ll see what happens. Good luck everone!

Oh god. I’m procrastinating already.

Not me. I like to get started right away. I peter out, so I like to get a strong start.
Oh. Wait.

I am posting and I haven’t written a word, yet.

Well then, I guess I am procrastinating, too.
