Gina Carano is ignorant AF, but cancel culture is really getting ridiculous

Not sure how choosing where I spend my money is ‘virtue signaling’, but I purchase a lot of goods from China, which is not inconvenient at all.

Would you prefer I suppress Ms Carano’s freedom of speech?

He would prefer you suppress his freedom of speech so he can tell the truth for once.

And that’s a reason we should give her a pass?

Biden voting counties account for 70% of the economy.

Michael Jordan once said “Republicans buy sneakers, too” for being apolitical during his career. That is starting to change. It’s not cancel culture, it’s knowing where the money is.

If they’re not courting it, they at least don’t give a damn. Look at how many companies have sworn not to donate to right-wing campaigns as a result of the Capitol riots – these companies would never do that if they believed it would impact their bottom line. So either they have determined any loss of conservative business will be negligible, or offset by gains from rational people. As @Ann_Hedonia said, “the world just laughs and shrugs”.

It refers to octopus’s irrational but oft-repeated notion that if you buy any goods from China, which is known for abusive exploitation of its low-wage labor force, then any of your other efforts to influence corporate policies via your consumer choices are just pointless “virtue signaling”.

Yes, of course that makes no sense (it’s octopus). If you and a vast number of other Disney-watchers stop purchasing Disney products because you object to Disney’s employment of a delusional right-wing asshole who persistently spreads toxic lies on social media, and if Disney cuts ties with that asshole because of your boycott, then obviously your and your fellow fans’ aggregate consumer choices have had a practical effect in persuading a major corporation not to support or encourage that particular brand of toxic lying.

This remains true no matter how many goods any of you do or do not purchase from China, or what opinions any of you may have about the relative undesirability of Disney’s policies versus those of Chinese sweatshop manufacturers.

Ahhhhhh, now it makes sense, or as close as octopus is likely to get. Conservatives cannot seem to maintain a straight line of reasoning. Thank you.

O/T: sorry, I wasn’t paying attention. Who the hell is Lara America-hating-fuckst - - I mean Trump?

Ann_Hedonia, you continue to impress. Especially lately, your posts have been works of art, erudite, salient, and a joy to read. And yet you haven’t lost the common touch that allows you to post something like that when it’s really the only thing that will do.

Nothing irrational about pointing out the utter ridiculousness of those who feel smug moral superiority for nothing more than expressing a little displeasure on twitter. Actually living with the consequences of living in accordance to professed moral superiority is not about to happen for those who seek nothing more than social validation for the parroting of approved opinions.

If fixating on produce in the behind and that conservative is synonymous with being bad bad bad with finances are erudite I’d hate to see an example of what you’d consider coarse or unenlightened. Then again, to a liberal, a crucifix in piss is art.

octopus: Waaah, all you terrible displeasure-expressers on Twitter are tearing our society apart with your dangerous dehumanization of out-groups and cancel culture!

Also octopus: Pffft, it’s so utterly ridiculous for you to regard your boycott decisions as morally significant for you, they’re nothing more than expressing a little displeasure on Twitter!

Ehh. I’ve seen precious little from the right that I would describe with the adjective “conservative” in the past generation or so, so your rejoinder doesn’t really carry much meaning for THIS Prescriptivist4Life.

Wow kaylasdad99, are you saying that the clause “If fixating on produce in the behind and that conservative is synonymous with being bad bad bad with finances are erudite” conveyed any meaning to you whatsoever?? If so, I’m impressed: please parse for me, thx.

Ha! That’s not quite what I’m saying but it’s a humorous spin on it.

That said, there is a bit of truth to to your spin. It doesn’t take a huge sacrifice for those who virtue signal on twitter to do a whole lot of damage. Social media does amplify messages. That doesn’t mean that those sending the message are actually incurring any inconvenience.

It’s similar to the silly NBA with their league approved social ‘justice’ messages that excluded anything they calculated would cost them a dollar. Like critiquing China and their concentration camps.

No, but whether or not an action is morally justifiable or desirable doesn’t necessarily depend on whether it causes the doer any inconvenience.

Personally, for example, I feel that it’s more moral (for me according to my own lights, that is, not trying to enforce on anyone else) not to pick up somebody else’s dropped money in the street than to pick it up and keep it. That moral choice of mine not only doesn’t incur any extra inconvenience for me, it actually saves me the slight inconvenience of having to bend over and pick up the dropped money. But that doesn’t make it not a moral choice on my part.

Not really. As implied, I stopped reading when he used the word “conservative.”

I’ll admit to a mild curiosity concerning what produce is being harvested from whose behind.

Probably sour grapes.

Tossed salad of course,

Well that’s why it is recommended to first lurk and observe for a while, which would have made rather clear where you are. But stick around if you can, you may start liking it.
