Give me a series (or longer game) to replay!

You seem to like RPGs, but I don’t see any suggestions for Square games. What about Final Fantasy (and you can even break the series into NES/SNES/PSX/PS2 clumps), Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, etc. Some of them seem a bit rudimentary after playing some more modern games with more complex systems, but I still think they’re a lot of fun.

I also want to add my vote for Metroid, not just the Prime series, but also for the others. I’ve always found them very enjoyable.

And much in the same vein as Metroid, I’d recommend Castlevania as well. I think Symphony of the Night is still one of the greatest games I’ve ever played and has a great mix between the exploration and collection aspects of Metroid with the leveling and storyline of an RPG.

Alright, I’m back at it after finishing a round of Mass Effect (which I’ve never completed before, wonderful ending).

Now, however, I’m feeling like a JRPG to balance stuff out. I’m specifically debating between Eternal Sonata and Tales of Vesperia. I never finished either, though I got damn close in Eternal Sonata (I burned myself out in the long as hell Bonus Dungeon, and grinding Claves out got boring), I never even got the ship in Vesperia, but what I played of it was fun, and Rita is like, one of my favorite characters ever.

So any suggestions on that front?

Sounds like you should play more Vesperia. You didn’t get to the best bits, really.

Goddamn it, I had to replay the Colosseum 5 billion some odd hours ago because I died on Zagi 3 and I FORGOT TO SCAN THE GOD FORSAKEN ONE TIME ENCOUNTERS THE SECOND TIME THROUGH.

Now I just got Ba’ul and realized this (because at this point in the game you should get the 50% scene with Nan and I checked over my book and sure enough)!

God damn it, I hate this so fucking much but I’m just going to give up on the game if I don’t go back and do it, which is going to be torturous. All that grinding and tedious sidequesting… wasted. And I refuse to do an EX game, there’s no way I’m playing the FULL game twice.

Maybe this time I can avoid tossing my Karolian Hammer and screwing over my item title too.

I suggest the Suikoden series, if you have them/can borrow them/wrangle up the ungodly sum to buy the first 2 for PSX. I’m playing them again right now, and its nearly as fun as the first time through.

Each game has 108 recruitable characters, most of them usable in battle, most of the rest do something cool outside of battle (gambling, fishing, cooking, etc.) The first game is decent, but the second is amazing (and probably the most expensive). The third and fourth are both lots of fun, but I haven’t played the fifth yet. A cool feature is that you can load endgame data from the previous game to unlock bonus things like hidden characters and dialog. Its definitely worth trying the series out if you get the chance.

Er… or maybe you should stop being an obsessive compulsive 100% completist and just enjoy the game? o.o

Never had a Playstation before PS3, not sure if mine is backwards compatible either. But, that’s a no-go since I don’t really have any friends I can borrow a PSX or Suikoden from (I’m not sure if anyone I know even has anything from that series).

I’m working on it, I have issues, okay? I was out of commission in bed for all of Saturday except for 2 hours where I was starving and had to eat because I was so freaked/stressed out about whether I should just go on or restart, I really should just go on to help myself beat my obsessiveness but as you can see it’s really hard for me. I wasn’t kidding when I said CRIPPLING obsession with completing sidequests.

Some PS3s are backwards compatible, some aren’t. I believe the first production series were, while the later ones are not. Weird decision on Sony’s part, I know, but then again, the PS3 is lagging in console sales.

Resident Evil (Biohazard, for some) has always been a favorite series of mine. Problem is, it’s been around for so long that it’s spread over several systems. The first ones (1, 2, 3) came out on PS1. Then Nintendo got an exclusive with Capcom to do a remake of the first one, a new prequel called Resident Evil 0, and re-release some ports of 2 and 3. Now you can play Resident Evil 4 on Wii and Gamecube, while RE 5 is available on Xbox 360 and PS3, but not Wii. But Wii has a rail-shooter called Umbrella Chronicles that looks fun. There are also non-canonical spin-offs on PS2

Sorry to ramble, but I really love that series.

Have you tried just not looking at any walkthroughs? If you don’t know the quest is there, you can’t get worried over trying to finish it, right?

Maybe.
Anyway, how good was the Storms of (Something Exotic that starts with a Z) expansion of NWN2? I only played MOTB, which I thought was as close to PS:T as you can get (actually, I’m pretty sure the plot was almost lifted from that game and then tweaked, but I digress) but never moved on to SoZ, should I go for that or is that expansion not worth it?

I’m currently engaged in a Gabriel Knight retrospective myself. Very compelling.
