OK, I am giving up caffeine for the Lenten period. That means no Excedrin to kill tomorrow’s headache, no coffee, no Coke - nothing.
I have made it before (and it makes the first cup on Easter Sunday TRULY Heavenly). I have dumped alcohol in the past, but I don’t drink the way I used to so that is not much of a challenge.
Anyone else giving something up? Thoughts on your chance of success?
About 10 years ago, I made the decision to give up giving up things for Lent. Although I am a Christian and fairly devout, I just have never gotten the whole giving up something. Why would God, who made the earth and sky, the giant redwoods, the blue whale and the Grand Canyon, be impressed because I stopped drinking Diet Coke for 40 days?
Meat. As I said in the other thread on this subject, I’m a real carnivore, and giving up something I like so much makes me remember, on a daily basis at least, what was done for me.
