Glad I stumbled in. . .

Hello, all. I wasn’t sure where I should put this post, but figured this was a good of place as any. I’ve been surfing the site now for 3 hours or so, and decided I’d like to participate.

To introduce myself, I’m Sami. I’m a 31 year old bartender in Las Cruces, NM, USA. I’m a diehard Cubs fan and a helluva foosball player. I also spend a lot of time in my own brain, and hope I can share a little and learn a little while I’m here.
If I ask stupid questions or violate protocol while finding my way around, please let me know.

See you around…~S

Welcome to the boards, Sami! It ain’t easy to violate protocol around here, especially if you stay out of Great Debates and General Questions.

Generally, the rules are as follows:
Universal Rule: Don’t be a jerk.
Great Deates Rules:
No personal insults.
If someone asks for proof of an assertion, you have to provide a cite.
Same thing for GQ.

If you need more information, I would suggest either visiting the various fora and reading the stickies at the top of the screen, just below the toolbar, or emailing a moderator if that doesn’t help you.

Hope you stay for a while!

My husband graduated from New Mexico State!! Tell me, Is Napolito’s still there? Great New Mexican food in an old church. Every time we make it back to NM we have to stop in Cruces so he can eat at Napolito’s. The record is 5 times in 1 day, and take-out - he’s a bit obsessive.

Good to meet you!!

Welcome to our playground. You’ll endear yourself to most of us if you check out the FAQs and About This Message Board to learn about the inside jokes and abbreviations and how to bold and italicize and

and stuff like that. But of you can’t find something in those places, do ask - when we’re not crabby, we’re quite helpful.

Oh yeah, and I’m nice. That’s my schtick. Nice… that’s me.

Like I said - welcome!

I just got goofed on for missing my own sister’s introduction thread, so I am trying to regain my karma…

Welcome, Sami41. Listen to the wise people above and you will have a fine time here.

I try to avoid spending time in my brain. It’s a bizarre, and sometimes frightening place. I did manage to find and remove the black particle though (If you get that reference you’ll fit right in).

Seriously, introspection, and the willingness to examine one’s beliefs are rather valued here.

Welcome aboard.

Hey all. Thanks for the warm welcome. I’ll take your advice and visit tha FAQs and stickys asap.

Yes, DeVena, Napolitos is still here, although I haven’t eaten there in probably 5 years. I’ve been on a Los Compas kick lately, and there’s so much great mexican here Napolitos has slipped my mind. Thanks for the reminder. . .that might just be dinner Monday. By the way, I think anything more than 4 times daily constitutes A Problem. When was your husband here? Anyone I’d know (I’ve only been here 13 years, they don’t even consider me a local yet).

Be sure to stop by The Club next time you’re here. I’ll buy you a beer.

Unfortunatly, DocCathode, I don’t know from the black particles. . .I’ll check the FAQ’s  .

Thanks again for the nice welcome. …~S

Don’t worry about the black particle 'cause it really isn’t essential(or even nice to know)

Hi, Sami, nice to see another NewMexiDoper! Have a nice day.

Bueno.

Welcome to the SDMB!

Welcome aboard, Sami. Always glad to have another Doper here. I live just over in Texas; San Antonio, to be precise. So pardon me if I occasionally let slip words like “howdy” or “y’all”. Been here too long, perhaps. Nah, perhaps not.
Oh, and I’m one of those hugaholic types too, just so you know. So, welcome! (I won’t even say anything about your brain, or living in it now and then, or… )

purrplebear, happy to meet another new doper…

Hi Sami! My baby sister and her husbaned just moved to Las Cruces – they’re in the Air Force. What bar do you work in? Maybe I’ll tell her to stop by. I’m biased, but I think she and her husband are lotsa fun.

Gundy, I work at The Club off of Foster Road and Solano (The sign says’The Annex’). Certainly send your friends in, we like fun people.

I’m not a big hugger, but what the heck, {{{{purplebear}}}, , right back at ya.

Spooky, where do you live in NM?

Lots of nice folks here, thanks ~S

As I would offer to Sawx fans, as well as Cubs fans… My condolences… my poor downtrodden friend. :stuck_out_tongue:

Welcome to the boards!

I’ve been saying “wait 'til next year” my whole life. . . they teach you that in the mail order course: “How to torture yourself slowly, Cubs edition”. What’s one more year?

But, really. . .This IS our year. The Asshole can’t beat us with their ex-Yanks, and the Yanks can’t beat anyone with-out them.

Thanks for the condolences, looking forward to the congrats come October.

~S

To clarify: ‘Asshole’ should be plural, as in the Houston Assholes. oops

Welcome, Sami41. What is your philosophy?

Wow, what a wide open question! I suppose you could some it up some where within “live and let live”, “Do onto others. . .” and “Play ball.”

I can get more specific is you like. Politics? Religion? How do you mean “philosophy”?

~S

Actually, I think you covered it. From your response, I’d say you lean libertarian politically, tolerant atheist religionally, and have a Phlegmatic/Sanguine temperament.

Pretty good. I do lean libertarian, I suppose, but I’m certainly leaning from the conservative side.

“tolerant atheist” is a great term, but atheist may be too strong of a word. I believe in a higher power of some sort, but I’m not cocky enough to claim to begin to identify or understand it (much less be “saved”). Agnostic is probably closer to correct.

And, forgive my ignorance, but what exactly does it mean to have a Phlegmatic/Saguine temperment. Most people call me Pleasantly Flexible and Easy to Get Along With. Is that close?
