I just found out the other day (contrary to what I believed) that Byron (Neobican) and I are NOT the only SDMB posters in the Des Moines area. Boli lives here, too. What’s more, she lives in the same neighborhood! How cool is that? (We believe we should get some sort of recognition for having the closest proximity… she lives about two blocks away from me.)
We decided to meet up this evening at Perkin’s and blab over coffee. Of course, we discussed the MB, shared interesting stories about ourselves, and generally had each other in stitches for the better part of three hours. Unfortunately, we had to cut it short since she works during the day.
Among the things we talked about:
Username pronunciation. She had a blank look when I said “Yutie-chews” (Eutychus). When she realized who I was talking about, she said she always read it as “Yuticuss.”
Now I have no idea if I’ve been pronouncing it right. She thought that Nickrz is “Nick RZ”… I think it’s “Knickers.”
The Female Condom and menstrual cups. Thankfully this discussion took place long after I finished my reduced-fat-no-sugar-added wildberry pie.
Annoying posters. I’m not mentioning any names, but it’s probably not what you think.
Etc…
All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Boli, thanks a heap and expect me to call you soon about going to a movie.
Let’s hear 'em. Your first IRL meeting with another poster. Dish.

As far as I can tell, I’m the only poster in the St. Louis area. A couple of my friends around here lurk, but that doesn’t count, because I met them before they knew about the SDMB.
Well, check the “Flora and Ike” thread; as soon as Mr. Ukelele and I have recovered from our riotous escapades at the Algonquin last night, one or the other of us will fill you in . . .
I think I’ve seen 2 other posters in the Boulder/Denver area. Unfortunately, I’ve forgotten who you are.
'course, I try to downplay the fact that I live in Colorado, and upplay the yooper part. I think I’m the only yooper. Or at least, ex-yooper, someday will be yooper again…
That pretty much describes everyone that is driving and or sitting in traffic on 270!
Will you have beer in hand? Maybe that could be the SDMB signal for Columbus.
I know of at least three posters who live in Texas (Cessandra, Ayesha, and her husband the Lion). I think Ayesha and The Lion live in Houston.
I’ve thought of going to Rocky Horror to see Cessandra perform, but it feels a little too “stalker” for me. As soon as I can get some of my lame-ass friends to come along, I probably will (You’ve been warned, Cessandra).
I would like to get together with some of the SDMB members. The thing is, AFAIK, the only poster (albeit former) who lives near me is Adam/ARG220. 'Nuff said.
However, if things work out, I may be within a reasonable distance of TennHippie (although that’s not my reason for relocating :)) and in a position where I’m making frequent weekend trips to Atlanta. I’d like to hook up with some of the SE US contingent of the SDMB if that goes through.
Let’s see…Ohio dopers…pldennison somewhere in Cleveland, my mom (mainly a lurker) in Solon, UncleBeer in somewhere, TheDoll in Columbus, me in Columbus, cowgod in…Dayton? Someone in Toledo, although I can’t remember who. Someone attending college in Cinci, although that might be one of the aforementioned folks. Someone in Chillicothe. Contestant#3 is also a Buckeye, but I can’t remember where he’s from.
UncleBeer is in Toledo. The Cowgodmoo is from Toledo but I think he’s in Cincinnati at the University now. There was someone else from Toledo IIRC. And we’ve got DSYoungESQ, who doesn’t venture into this forum often; he’s just down the road from Toledo in Waterville, OH.

Byzatine lives very close to my office. Maybe one day we’ll meet for coffee?!?!
I post on a local message board in the forum on religion. You think the BB Pit here gets bad, NOTHING compared to the flames that goes on there, I mean hell, we are talking the two extremes going head to head (Mormon’s and the Heathens), and in Utah, that is a pretty heated topic.
A couple of years ago right in the middle of the flames, someone suggested we all meet at the park for a BBQ. It was a blast! From that day on we continue to get together at least every two months.
We have had BBQs, a toga party, gone out dancing (the Mormon’s were the designated drivers), hot tub parties, one of the guys is a musician and he even wrote a song about all of us.
We still argue, but we always put differences aside when we meet. It’s great.
