I’ve worn glasses for flying since I started. Last June I went for my flight physical, and the nurse asked if I was wearing contacts. (I don’t, and wasn’t.) She said I was 20-20. The limitation on my medical certificate that stated I must wear corrective lenses while flying was removed.
Glasses and medieval metal braces all through high school. The braces came off a week after graduation, and oddly coinkidinkily enough, got contacts and went from flatchested to D cup titties over the course of a summer.
Talk about yer wild lurch-out-the-starting gate freshman college year…
I’ve had glasses since second grade, and I just got my braces in August. I eill have to wear them until I am a Junior in High School(March 2003), but I think it will take a lot longer than that for my teeth to get fixed.
I’ve had glasses since I was 8, I wore contacts every day from age 16-19, then off and on at age 20, pretty much went back to glasses after that. I probably should have had braces (and had some lower teeth extracted, in addition to my wisdom teeth) but the thought of having perfectly good teeth taken out makes me nauseous.
When I was a kid, I found girls with glasses and braces attractive (still like glasses). I think it was my tendency to have crushes on nerdy bookworm types.
No braces, not never, no way, nuh-uh. Didn’t need 'em!
Glasses, though - lenes so thick you’d think they’d been cut from those glass blocks they use in buildings. Ever since a kid. Even wear them when I go swimming because otherwise I can’t see the side of the pool coming at me (ow!)
To add insult to injury - I’m now at the point of needing an arm extension because I’m getting “old people’s eyes”. >sigh< Guess it’s time for bifocals.
One more with glasses checking in.
I usually hate to have them,
but now since I bought my new one,
you can see them in the link I have in my sig,
I actually like them.
So know I don’t take them of when someone takes a pictures of me,
that I nearly always did before,
it still happends sometimes though,
maybe from the old habit.
Like Persephone, I simply can’t bear the thought of contact lenses. Yeesh. It would be like deliberately poking myself in the eye at least twice a day.
I had braces…in college! Oh well. They’re gone now.
Mrs. Dave-Guy has only recently acquired glasses, so she’s not used to wearing them. Half the time she doesn’t use them. And she maintains that she can’t eat with them on. I simply can’t fathom it. I don’t dare drive without them, and if I go too long without wearing them, I start to get a headache.
When I turned 45, my eyes turned to doo-doo - I wear progressive tri-focals now and I feel naked without them. Never had braces, but my teeth are fairly straight, and once I get talking, you can hardly see them anyway!
I’ve worn glasses since I was in the 7th grade. I need them for everything except reading although I do have to wear them to read the Straight Dope. I’ve been thinking about having corrective surgery lately.
I have glasses/contacts since I was in 4th grade (I’m 27 now). I just recently switched to wearing glasses 95% of the time and am soooooo much happier than I was with contacts. My eyes feel 100% better. I’m told glasses suit me too.
I wear glasses and contacts (not at the same time though. My vision’s not that bad…) I only wear contacts when I’m going somewhere, especially when I’m driving. If I wear my glasses when I drive, everything is fuzzy. And I can’t see very far with them. (They are supposedly the right prescription, so there goes one theory.) Now I want to get some new glasses. These bug me and I want some that look a little more fashionable.(The ones I have on now are wire-rimmed small-framed ones, but I want some other ones. Oh, and these have been stepped and sat on too many times. 6 years does that to glasses. )
With my contacts I don’t mind sticking my finger in my eye. I have had my contacts since the end of 8th grade, so I’ve had a lot a practice. When I first got them, I thought I wasn’t ever going to be able to get them in, but I did. You’re eye gets used to it after a while.
Glasses since third grade - braces from 8th grade to junior year. No headgear - thank god - but the elastics were fun, unless they snapped during a yawn!
Oh yeah - had 8 teeth pulled before the braces went on (no room for them) - proof that I’m not a big mouth?
