Glee's roleplaying game companion thread

The party so far:

NAF1138 Thief
Jimmy Chitwood Human Ranger
Malacandra Johannes, Human Paladin
Appleciders Cleric
Malahoth MU
Teuton Plixican, Gnome Summoner

That will work fine - here’s a brief assessment of your combat potential:

  • the Paladin and Ranger both can fight in the front line
  • the Cleric can heal or fight as desired
  • the Thief can scout and backstab
  • the MU has a wide choice of spells
  • the Summoner can provide troops

I joined the SDMB in 1999 - any TV show using my name is a latecomer!

I thought the same thing. I also used to think glee was just a really cheerful poster.

An easy mistake to make. However, [REDACTED], which is obvious really, since [REDACTED] and, taking this into consideration along with [REDACTED], along with the equally obvious “madrigal” connection, he could hardly have breadcrumbed it more. And that’s how I worked out that [REDACTED].

Yup. At low level a Cleric isn’t too squishy, his armour, hit points and chance to hit aren’t too much worse than a fighter-type’s. Hope that Summoner can provide enough cannon fodder to help, though, I’ve not seen one before (not under glee’s rules at any rate).

Neither have I. I’ll be interested to see what spells I have available!

Things are progressing (and I should be able to do a lot tomorrow.)

It would be useful if anyone could ‘host’ a map of the area.
Any offers?

If not, I can use a text description or send a document to every player (provided they don’t mind giving me their e-mail address.)

Let me know what you prefer.

You mean host a map of the area on the 'net, so that people can click on a link and see the area? I can do that. Just e-mail it to me. My address is public in my profile.

Thanks!
I’ll send you a map (in Publisher, OK?) and if you start by posting it in this thread*, that will give the players a clear idea of the area.
Then when I send everyone details of their character’s background, it will make more sense…

*and we can post it again in the game thread as a reference.

Dammit, I take my eye off the boards for one second, and now there’s a whole party and campaign happening without me! First of all though, many, many thanks for agreeing to run this Glee – shall I wait until the next campaign or is there room for one more here?

Thanks to the players for their interesting input - just a few minor details to come:

  • NAF1138, send me a name
  • Appleciders, name and final choice of race, please

I’m going to send out the first draft of each character today (hopefully  ) - please note this is not final and you’re welcome to come back to me with further ideas.
It is worth spending time on this, as e.g. there may be plot elements buried in your backgrounds.

Bibliovore,
I know how you feel - I usually miss out on Mafia game threads by being on UK time.

I do want to involve you, but 6 characters maximum is what I’ve always done.
So here’s the deal:

  • if a current player has to drop out, I’ll put you in (as you’re now the first reserve)
  • if the game thunders ahead with all players, I’ll offer you an NPC role in it
  • if all goes well with this campaign, I’ll run another one afterwards

Thanks Glee – it’s just frustrating as I’d made the initial request for the game in the first place over in the other thread. Ah well… them’s the breaks I guess. If I do get to play, then I’d like to go for a Human Ranger please, or something equivalent to a straight-up fighter. The character I had in mind is a proper sword-and-board melee brawler with the heaviest armour allowable (and a brilliant backstory!)

I do love a good backstory!

However if you do come in as reserve, I may have limited options for your character (to keep party balance.)

There are going to be several interesting NPCs to play, so please watch this space…

In fairness, I volunteer to step down - Bibliovore has prior claim, it is hard on him to be left out after being the first to make the request, and I was last to sign up (and then only to provide backup for newbies). He would slot in fairly seamlessly as a replacement for what I was intending.

That’s incredibly gracious of you Malacandra, but I’d feel terrible about depriving you of your spot just because I was late to the party.

No worse than I would feel after you’d put in the initial request and I’d come and taken the last spot away from you! Please, I insist - I have had many chances before including Jim (What Exit)'s epic Middle-Earth campaign that **glee **also doubtless has fond memories of, and if anyone’s going to step in as an occasional NPC or replacement it would be fairer all round if it were me.

That’s very kind indeed, I really appreciate it. In that case, if it’s alright with Glee, I’ll send across my character’s details a little bit later today. He’s actually the subject of a story I’m writing, so I’ll try to keep the details brief rather than send across an entire novel!

Thanks to Malacandra for his generosity.

I will make him the same offer: he’s first reserve for dropouts, otherwise he can play an NPC.

Very Paladin-like, that man.

Interestingly I’d just completed and sent Malacandra’s character.

So Bibliovore, you get to play Johannes the Paladin.
This is because:

  • Johannes is very useful to the party
  • he’s got some plot elements
  • I’ve spent time finishing him!

I’ll send you the character now - have a look and tell me what you think.

Let’s call my guy Dorric. I’ll let you give him a last name glee.
