Glen Beck has had chiropractic brain rehab.

Completely bypassing the millions of Americans would would cheerfully have done it for free. So wasteful.

I once sprained my pineal gland doing a really hard crossword puzzle.

Awhile back I suspected that Beck might do a face turn one day when he was no longer particularly relevant, and this might be the start of it. I have a feeling that we will see him start to repudiate (or refudiate) some of his previous “genuine” beliefs and start his carny routine in another direction.

Sometimes there’s a grain of truth in even the most outlandish claims but this seems pretty farfetched to me. I, too, wouldn’t be surprised if he uses this to recreate himself.

We once had a chiropractor give a talk in the breakroom at work. The inducement to attend this meeting was a half Subway sandwich and a bag of chips. I wish so badly I had recorded his spiel, because (I really wasn’t paying that much attention) I believe he claimed to have cured a kid’s peanut allergy through chiropracty :dubious:

It looks like this all falls under the neuroplasticity umbrella. It is also being used in the widespread Brain Balance franchise which is popping up all over the country. Carrick and Mellilo (the founder of Brain Balance) seem to be connected. BB seems to use a blend of regular occupational therapy techniques and complete woo to treat everything in children from ADHD to behavioral issues to autism.

Dr. Phil is a big promoter if this type of treatment. So it’s almost certainly BS.

We briefly looked into Brain Balance for my daughter. Once I saw that all the science that backed it up were studies made by chiropractors with little or no review I quickly decided to not waste my money.

And for full disclosure I use a chiropractor. When my neck hurts or is stiff. But not to cure autism or a cold.

Well, you got the first syllable right.

Dr Steven Novella (a neurologist) discusses the Glen Beck situation.

So Beck is jumping on the same gravy train as Dr. Phil? Imagine my surprise. Boarding call for Dr. Oz!

Is ten years without REM sleep remotely possible?

I guess I’ll cut him a little slack now that there are possible medical reasons for the inane stuff that he says. I hope whatever treatment he seeks works, it all sounds pretty complicated to my non-medical mind.

Hyperextend the other one, it’s got bells on.

How can you go on 2 hours sleep a night for years without dying or going insane?

I Know of someone, a very young man who was sick for years. He had Atlas Syndrome. The cure was chiropractic adjustments and physical therapy. His head was literally not on straight.

I have never heard of this “syndrome” (and, oddly, there is not a single reference to it in the Pub Med scientific literature database).

If one’s first cervical vertebra (atlas) was truly deformed/displaced as to be causing symptoms, it’d take a lot more than chiro adjustments to correct it (and the adjustments themselves could be hazardous - witness the cases of paralysis and/or death resulting from forceful chiropractic neck manipulation that damaged major neck arteries).

That last is a tautology since one can always infer A ==> A or B.

I looked around for this “Atlas Syndrome” as well, and came up relatively empty on it being a real thing.

*Glen Beck can while away the hours
refer’ patients to glass towers
Til the money starts to rain…
O’Reilly’s head’d be a scratchin’
(Limbaugh’s pants would still need patchin’)
But Glen Beck done fixed his Brain!

He’ll take that money in the middle,
faster than Doc House can riddle
“for some small financial gain”
If your alignment is “right” thinkin,
Take a ratchet to your Lincoln…!
Time for Balancing Your Brain!

Oh why’d go tell you why?
When he can take a fee & point you to a door?
He’d be cashing checks he’s never cashed before…
(And then he’d sit… and cash some MORE!)

Why go bloviate at nothin’
to suits that have no stuffin’
When the money’s all in pain?
He can dance and sing all merry
'cause his fan base isn’t wary
(…and he’s gone and fixed is brain!)
