gmail questions

i don’t use it often, but I do like to use gmail now and then. I mainly use Thunderbird, but also have Yahoo and Hotmail accounts for various reasons. All of them are easy to use and tweak, but gmail is driving me nuts.

I would like to change my email ID but keep the same password. Going to my account, it is easy to change the password, but it does not let me change my user name (email address) from xxx@gmail.com to zzz@gmail.com.

  1. Is there any way to do this? They don’t even seem to have Help files.

I then tried to create an alternate account which they say can be done, but after trying all permutations, I could not get that to work either.

It won’t let me create a second account under a new name, but keeps signing me into my regular account. I deleted all their cookies, but still no luck.

So, what I would like to do is just delete, remove or get rid of that account altogether, but there does not seem to be any way to do that at all. Weird.

  1. Any way to just get rid of my account totally?

  2. If that is possible, can I then create a new account under a new name and password, or will they recognize my computer not not let me do that?

If you go to https://accounts.google.com/, do you see an option in the upper righthand corner of the screen labeled “Sign up for a new Google Account”?

You can have as many accounts as you like. If it won’t let you create an account that you want, that means someone else is already using that name…

No I don’t Dewey. The only thing in the upper right hand corner is my ID. I searched the entire screen, and also all over My Account page, and no such tab exists. Nor any other way I cna see to create a new account, sadly.

Click on your ID and a menu will pop down. There will be a Sign Out option. Click this and you will be signed out of your account. Then go back to the Gmail home page and click the ‘Create an Account’ button.

OK, thanks, that did it. My brain does not work properly this early in the morning, if at all.
