I hope it does not need to be stressed that I care. Very much so, and I have clicked on my bookmark to the page pretty much daily since February. So I’m happy to be able to make this report.
Next you’ll be telling me that 2D Goggles will . . . HOLY CRAP! Did you knock that loose? If you scroll back, you can see that it’s been over a year since there was a comic. And that still isn’t a comic, but still.
Good to hear that Thunt is back at it. I only clicked on the bookmark 3 or 4 times a week, though. Five, tops.
I’m completely delighted that Goblins will be starting up again soon. I’ve been reading it for years and had been getting increasingly worried that Tarol Hunt was working too hard and not letting himself relax in between updates – he always seemed to be running behind his self-imposed schedule and I wondered for ages why he didn’t just drop back to a schedule that he could handle without drowning in anxiety. However much a few would have howled with outrage over not getting new updates of this free online comic as often as they decided they wanted, most would have been happy to get it when they got it.
Does it seem to anyone else that there’s been an explosion of online artists who have massive problems with depression? The Bloggess, Hyperbole and a Half, Goblins, Epbot, Captain Awkward … and these are just sites that I myself regularly follow; there are certainly many more out there. I wonder if it’s that people with a particular mindset (for lack of a better term) are more attracted to do their work over the internet, or that working over the internet is inherently isolating and prone to feeding anxiety and depression.
However it is, I wish him and the others out there all the best and I really hope this is the start of things being more sustainable for him. And purely as a fan of the comic, I’m wriggling with glee that we’re going to be able to see what he was talking about when he said the next three updates are going to blow our freaking minds!
I’ll confess: I’m not a great fan of the strip’s current update frequency (lack of a consistent pattern is a weak area). However, I’m a HUGE fan of the strip, story and art both. And I’m ESPECIALLY fond of updates where a character gets a truly Badass moment.
I’m really liking the current storyline. The evolution of the characters is well done. But I’ll be happy once they get out of this dungeon. Some of the imagery is a little disturbing; beautiful but disturbing.
I try to check in once a week, without any expectation. I was going to bump the thread yesterday, but I saw already had, over a year ago. :smack:
