You did indeed do good.
Wonderful story, Excalibre! It’s pretty interesting how quickly kittens can get under your skin (sometimes, it seems, literally).
Daniel
You are a good, good person, Excalibre.
I really do think there is a very special place in Hell for people who treat animals like this. You did good, and you are a fine person in my book!
Yeah, those kittens really grew on me . . .
I actually started to cry when I read the last line of the OP. I’m so thrilled to hear they’re going to have good homes!
But Excalibre, you know the rules about kitten threads…
I’m in the market for kittens. My email is in my profile. I live in Detroit. How soon can (a couple? let’s see if I can’t talk mom into taking on more) I get them?
Orange boys – they are boys, aren’t they? Orange cats often are – are the BEST! Thank goodness you came upon those kittens in time to save them and with the willingness to do so. Here’s hoping the heartless beast who abandoned them finds him/herself starving and naked to the elements some day.
Two of my feline pack were dumped as three-month-old kittens at the barn where my horse boards. Thanks for two lovely girls, unknown dumper, and may you develop incurable rainrot in your hair and thrush in both feet.
A calico I had years ago was abandoned in the 13th-floor cafeteria of the government office building I then worked in. Witnesses saw him walk in, deposit the kitten, and bolt. I suppose that’s better than just tossing the wee thing out of a car into an alley, so that kitten-dumper gets wished merely perpetual hangnails.
If I lived close enough to you I’d be making a bid for the calico. Does she look anything like this?

You left out laminitis in all four limbs. Not deadly as it is in horses, but having all 20 finger and toe nails laminae separate has to hurt like hell. So bring it on to the unknown dumper! …And add a daily dipping, no, soaking, in lemon juice for extra measure.
Good thinking, Ruffian!* But will the laminitis progress to founder in a two-leg? Please tell me Unknown Dumper would have coffin bones susceptible to rotation!
*In honor of the late great filly?
I take back my speculation, if they are old enough to eat cat food… I don’t get how people can just drop animals off like that. Being a country boy, I would rather put the animals down myself (as horribly unpleasant as that is) before allowing them to suffer horribly to die. Living in the country we would often have stray dogs and cats that were very obviously dumped by some fucking idiot.
The dogs would get hungry, start chasing cattle and get shot by the farmer. Some “happy” life ensvisaged by the dumb-ass who dropped them off in the friendly country landscape
You did do a good thing.
Seconded and thirded, please!
Cat person here. Thanks Excalibre!
Still waiting, ever so impatiently, for kitty pics!
'Fraid I don’t have any. Not much for taking pictures; I asked my mother to grab some (since she has, you know, a camera at her house) but I don’t think she did.)
Since Excalibre, alas, is pixless, let’s see what the Web has to offer:
Orange kitten and fluffy orange kitten
That should give you a fix.
You know,** Excalibre**, when you die, and likely expect a rather fiery reception, instead you’ll be handed a silly white robe. When you point out all your sins, some angel or Saint will point out “the kitten rescue”, and then you’ll find out why we humans do silly things like this. However, even if we don’t beleive in heaven, I do beleive in Karma, and damn dude, you just racked up MEGA-karma- cookies!
Good work, dude, thank you.
Hey, Excalibre, what’s the latest on the rescue kittens? Any pictures? Have they all found homes?
Yes indeed! They are all behomed. I’m not sure about pictures, as my mother claims to have taken at least one but she has since gallivanted off to South Africa with her boytoy in order to teach Dreamweaver to adolescents living in the townships. So if indeed there are any decent pictures, it’ll be awhile before I see them.
What a coincidence! That is exactly what I’ve planned for my retirement years.
Excalibre, who doesn’t suffer fools gladly, but takes in stray kittens? You are a riddle, my friend, wrapped up in an enigma. With extra chocolate sauce.
Let’s face it, your reputation is shot by now, so you might as well go the rest of the way and post the pictures you say that you don’t have…
::sigh:: The Pit just won’t be the same anymore…
