I must have missed the part of the election in Spain which was about telling America how to defend itself. Rather, I understood Spain had decided it no longer wanted to have its own Spanish troops in Iraq under American command. In other words, until now it was Spanish troops serving American interests and now Spain has said it will withdraw its troops if the transfer of authority does not take place at the end of June as promised by the USA. I never heard the Spanish government was now demanding that American troops be placed under Spanish command.
I hope I am also allowed to point out that invading Iraq can not be considered “defending yourself” and that trying to topple Chavez of Venezuela (as much as I dislike him) cannot be considered “defending yourself” but rather acts of aggression which, I hope, we are allowed to criticise.
The USA can choose to “defend” itself as it wishes but it seems to me it is making more enemies and losing support which is sort of the opposite of what it wants. Good luck if it thinks it can beat the rest of the world into submission when it cannot even beat Iraq or Venezuela or Cuba into submission.
Please tell me what you think of the Dutch. A whole nation is shaking nervously in anticipation. Tell us, oh great PharmBoy… give us our destiny. Are we to be grovelers? Will we lick spittle? Or shall we, oh joy, be pussies??
BTW, my unsollicited, arrogant, European advise on how the US should defend itself:[ul][]Militarily, no nation on earth poses a direct threat to the US. Relax.[]You can’t arm against terrorism. You combat terrorism by eliminating the sources on which it feeds.[/ul]You’re welcome.
Holy shit! The faker terrorists have capitulated to the will of Spain!
All hyperbole aside, it sounds pretty encouraging. For one thing, the people of Spain have nakedly swum in the stentorian tide that is Democracy, and an entire generation of Americans was watching. You know, regardless of your ideology, there’s a lesson in that.
For the other, the minute the Brigade delivered a statement to the Spanish Press, the bombing investigation was given a huge leg up. So they’re not affiliated with al Qaeda, that’s a shame. I do, however, believe there will be some pretty significant arrests out of this.
I think friend Sailor is speaking in the sense of collective possession, like we in MN have the West. Hem.'s largest concentration of leggy Nordic blondes. I don’t think Sailor is making any direct reference to his/her own gender, nor meaning to imply that he/she has more than one personal generative orifice.
Oh, I know; thus the wink. It was a joke, which someone seems to have missed in spite of the wink. Since at least one person has missed my point, I will refrain from any further commentary on what (or whom) sailor might like to possess.
It’s not outsourcing, view the rush to subcontract their thinking to Rupert Murdoch.
No, my guess is that it’s the future pre-figured. The recently put together global right-wing narrative is unravelling. Real fast it’s running dead into brute facts.
See, PharmBoy, this is how things are done in this forum. You said nowhere that the election in Spain was about telling America how to defend itself. You stated your opinion about not liking Europeans telling the U.S. how to defend itself (Not to be putting words in your mouth but I imagine you mean somethin along the line getting their permission, trying sanction after sanction after sanction, begging and pleading, etc. etc.).
But the response you get is a sarcastic insinuation that you said something entirely different than what you actually said, in the hope of getting you bogged down in defending yourself and diluting your actual point.
For all the Desi Arnaz fans out there, I meant to type “something,” not “somethin.” (And before anyone tries to make themselves look superior by accusing me of anti-Hispanic prejudice, Arnaz himself used this as a way of getting laughs on his show, so if you want to go tilting at any windmills tonight go find something else.)
