God hates Leftbehind.com?

I’ll be a bit surprised if this hasn’t been mentioned on the SDMB already, but it turns out the primary sponsor for Jimmy Hensley’s #72 NASCAR Craftsman Truck series entry this year is none other than www.leftbehind.com. Yup, folks, the media juggernaut behind the Lahaye/Jenkins apocalyptic novels has plastered its name on the side of a racing pickup truck. I am of course certain that this was done for no other reason than to get out the Good Word about the coming tribulations.

Now, I’m aware that a number of fundamentalist Christians are rabid fans of the LB novels, and some appear to consider them the equivalent of Biblical prophecy. I will assume that the Big Sky Daddy, if He exists at all, has been monitoring public reaction to the LB series, and further assume that, if He approved of their message, He would not be above helping #72 along a bit, knowing (as I’m sure He does) that front-runners get more air time than back markers. So, how has the Leftbehind.com entry done so far? Well, it seems to have been, er, left behind. In the first four races this season, #72 came in 30th at Daytona, 32nd at Mesa Marin, and 25th at Martinsville (the LB truck did not compete at Miami).

Based on this, I am forced to the conclusion that God either hates the Left Behind series, or maybe just doesn’t want to be associated with NASCAR. Who knows, maybe He’s more of a Formula 1 fan. Dopers?

I think it’s all because LaHaye sued Cloud Ten Pictures. You know, that could have been such a good movie.

Of course, it could be the work of the antichrist. Yeah, that’s it. Satan is keeping the car from winning. It’s a conspiracy by the illuminati. I’ll be hiding in my closet with my tinfoil hat on to keep the beams away from my brain.

I once read a biography on Aytron Senna da Silva. The title was Senna: Gods Right Foot. So yeah, it would appear God’s an F1 kinda guy.

Um. . . Ayrton actually.

And apparently He really needed His Right Foot back…

Details, please?

-Ben

Shite… that was one typo I wish I hadn’t made.

There ya go.

Hmmm. “Aytron” sounds kind of cool, actually. “I am Aytron, from the planet Senna. Take me to your fastest ground machines”.

Likewise, “God’s Right Foot” is definitely preferable to, say, “God’s Left Ass Cheek”.

In the interest of fairness and diversity, I would also like to propose that www.allah.com sponsor a Winston Cup car. I can see it now, slicing righteously through the field, and bunting the infidel beer-sponsored machines into the wall…

Personally, I think LaHaye is making a mistake.

Not so Jenkins.

Feh. You guys just don’t know your NASCAR. You can get plenty of exposure on the side of a journeyman’s car.

Leftbehind is actually sponsoring Randy MacDonald’s No. 72 Chevrolet, but MacDonald is using fill-in drivers while he recovers from a herniated disk.

The driver he recruited for the Florida Dodge Dealer’s 400 at Homestead was Rob Morgan. Morgan was a deciding factor in the race, as seen here:

So everybody who saw the race on the deuce that day saw the leftbehind car spin twice and get, well, no need to say it. (Speaking of which, you gotta be pretty free of superstition to put “leftbehind” on your racecar. What’s next, a horse in the Preakness called “lasix overdose?”)

I just hope that the folks over there are prepared for the day when their logo [Jackie Stewart voice] Bursts into flames[/Stewart]. Prolly they’ll see it as a sign.

Terribly sorry, but I just noticed that allah.com tries to download Comet Cursor to your machine whenever one accesses the site. Mods, you may want to deactivate my link in the message above.

I swear to, er, Allah that it wasn’t doing that yesterday when I posted the message.
